(Sarasota, Florida) The Sarasota Concert Association is pleased to present Sarasota Opera’s Studio Artists in a Munchtime Musicales performance, Wednesday, March 19, 2014, noon, at David Cohen Hall, Beatrice Friedman Symphony Center, 709 N. Tamiami Trail, Sarasota. The concert is free and open to the public. For more information about Munchtime Musicales, call 941-351-7467, or visit www.scasarasota.org.

The Sarasota Opera’s Studio Artists is a group of emerging artists who perform in mainstage productions by understudying principal roles and performing supporting roles. With dozens of roles needing understudies each season, the Studio Artists are often called on to substitute for an ill or injured principal, sometimes with little notice.

The Studio Artists are also Sarasota Opera’s ambassadors of opera, bringing music to communities outside the Sarasota Opera House. They perform concerts of operatic and non-operatic greats for people who might not otherwise be able to attend a performance throughout Sarasota and Manatee counties. These outreach initiatives are held in schools, retirement homes, community centers, at guild meetings, and other locations. Studio Artists not only return to Sarasota Opera as principal artists, they also have gone on to perform with opera companies around the world, including La Scala, the Metropolitan Opera, Lyric Opera of Chicago, San Francisco Opera, and the Paris Opera just to name a few.

Munchtime Musicales is a series of free concerts featuring performances by high-caliber, area-based artists. The series is designed to offer a wide variety of musical genres, including classical, folk, and jazz, featuring both vocal and instrumental performers. The 2013-2014 concert season concludes with the Gloria Musicae Singers, Sarasota’s professional vocal ensemble known for stimulating performances of great choral music that both educate and entertain(April 16, 2014). All performances are at noon at the Beatrice Friedman Symphony Center, 709 N. Tamiami Trail, Sarasota. The series is free and open to the public. Seating is open; no reservations taken. For more information about Munchtime Musicales, call 941-351-7467 or visit www.scasarasota.org.

SCA’s 2014 “Great Performers Series” continues with Russia’s historic St. Petersburg Philharmonic, with conductor Nikolai Alexeev and pianist Denis Kozhukhin (February 19, 2014); and the Detroit Symphony with conductor Leonard Slatkin and piano sensation Olga Kern (March 3, 2014). Great Performers Series concerts start at 8 p.m. at the Van Wezel Performing Arts Hall, 777 North Tamiami Trail, in Sarasota. Tickets are $40-$75 and are available online at www.scasarasota.org.

About the Sarasota Concert Association

The Sarasota Concert Association (SCA) exists to foster the development of an appreciation for the musical arts by sponsoring professional presentations that are not otherwise available in the community, through a not-for-profit, organized-audience plan. SCA aims to set the fee for all performances as reasonably as possible, in order to make the concerts available to as much of the community as possible. The organization is not designed to make a profit but does intend to be self-supporting. It provides outreach to all members of the regional community by offering a series of free concerts, Munchtime Musicales. For more information about SCA, visit www.scasarasota.org.
