(Sarasota, Florida) The Sarasota Concert Association’s 2015-16 Munchtime Musicales series concludes with a performance by Belle Canto, Sarasota’s premier women’s choral ensemble, Wednesday, April 13, noon, in Holley Hall, Beatrice Friedman Symphony Center, 709 N. Tamiami Trail, Sarasota. The concert is free and open to the public. For more information about Munchtime Musicales, call 941-351-7467, or visit www.scasarasota.org.

Since its inception in 2009, the goal of Belle Canto, which means “beautiful singing,” has been to showcase the unique beauty and quality of sound that comes from the blending of women’s voices. Considered by many to be Sarasota’s premier women’s choral ensemble, Belle Canto performs a varied repertoire that includes classical, traditional, secular and sacred works, as well as new works by contemporary composers.

“I wanted to take advantage of the vast repertoire of choral literature written specifically for women’s voices, and I was fortunate to come together with a very talented group of women who shared this vision,” says Elizabeth Goldstein, founder, conductor and artistic director of Belle Canto. “Most of our members were already involved with multiple auditioned music organizations in Sarasota and beyond, yet all embraced the concept and were willing to devote their time and talent to pursue this effort which has become a true celebration of women’s voices.” That celebration has garnered critical acclaim as well. Radio host and critic June LeBell praised Belle Canto for “their blend, ability to get words across and purity of sound,” making them “one of the finest choral groups I’ve heard in years.”
