January 2-31   Opening reception with artist is January 13

The California-based artist explores how the impact of human civilization affects our ecology in her latest series of tiny oil paintings that depict “a paradise that has turned sour.”

(Sarasota, FL) Englewood Art Center, a division of Ringling College of Art and Design, presents “Bread Clip Paintings,” an exhibition of works by Elizabeth Saveri, January 2-31. An artist’s talk is Saturday, January 13, at 1 p.m., followed by a reception, 2-4 p.m. The event is free and open to the public. The center is at 350 South McCall Road in Englewood. For more information, visit www.ringling.edu/EAC or call 941-474-5548.

Elizabeth Saveri is a painter and installation artist based in Pasadena, CA.

In her latest series, “Bread Clip Paintings,” Saveri explores how the impact of human civilization affects our ecology. According to the artist, the series’ tiny oil paintings form a meandering narrative that chronicles her obsession with climate change and “how humans and their by-products affect our natural surroundings. My recent work alludes to an impending disaster of environmental catastrophe.” She adds that the series “depicts a paradise that has turned sour, one in which our increasingly urbanised and artificial environment is threatening the very existence of the natural world. Despite this, I remain hopeful that it is not too late to halt the tide of seemingly irreversible change.”

“Elizabeth Saveri’s paintings are exquisitely detailed and their intricacy, juxtaposed with the magnitude of the subject matter, create a compelling visual experience and inspire constructive dialog,” says Samantha Parkinson, director of the Englewood Art Center.

The Englewood Art Center also offers a variety of ongoing art classes, exhibits and other special events for children and adults. For more information or to register, visit www.ringling.edu/EAC or call 941-474-5548.
