ST. PETERSBURG – Renowned pianist Jeremy Denk will perform Mozart’s Piano Concerto No. 20 instead of Ravel’s Piano Concerto for the Left Hand with The Florida Orchestra this weekend, Oct. 21-23.

Denk, one of America’s foremost pianists, has been performing Mozart on tour with great audience response and believes the change will produce the highest level of artistic excellence. A New York Times review from this past weekend described the “irrepressibly charismatic” Denk as a “joy to watch.”

Winner of the MacArthur “Genius Grant” and the Avery Fisher Prize, Denk keeps a robust concert, recording and publishing schedule. He last performed with The Florida Orchestra in April 2015 for Bartok’s Piano Concerto No. 3, with a standing ovation.

This weekend’s “Jeremy Denk Plays Mozart” concerts also include Stravinsky’s Song of the Nightingale, Dvorak’s The Wood Dove, and Strauss’ Till Eulenspiegel’s Merry Pranks. Rising star Karina Canellakis, assistant conductor of the Dallas Symphony, conducts.

Concerts are 8 p.m. Friday, Oct. 21, at the Straz Center in Tampa; 8 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 22, at the Mahaffey Theater in St. Petersburg; and 7:30 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 23, at Ruth Eckerd Hall in Clearwater. Tickets start at $15, with free Classical Kids tickets for ages 5-18. Tickets at FloridaOrchestra.org or 727.892.3337 or 1.800.662.7286.
