TALLAHASSEE – Registration is now open for the XXV Florida Senior Games, Florida’s Olympic-style Sports Festival for athletes age 50 and over.  To register online and find competition about the annual Florida Senior Games, to be held in Clearwater, December 3-11, 2016, visit www.floridaseniorgames.com.

Besides the opportunity to register online, prospective athletes can download and print registration forms and competition information at www.floridaseniorgames.com.  A registration book will be produced to mail to already qualified and prospective Florida Senior Games athletes and will be mailed in early September.

Besides the website, senior athletes may email the Games staff at [email protected], or call toll-free 1-866-FL-GAMES (354-2637)

Registration fees vary by sport and the entry deadline is in November.

The 2016 Florida Senior Games is a qualifier for the 2017 National Senior Games, to be held June 2-15, 2017, in Birmingham, Alabama.

During the nine days of the Games in Clearwater in December, athletes have the opportunity to compete in 25 sports.  Certain sports require a qualifying performance at a Florida Senior Games Series Qualifier.  A fall schedule of nine FSG Series Qualifiers can be found at www.floridaseniorgames.com.

With the 2016 Games being a qualifier for the 2017 National Senior Games, participation is expected to reach 2,500 athletes.

“With the upcoming National Senior Games being held in such close proximity to the State of Florida, we anticipate quite a few Florida athletes setting goals to qualify for the National Games, as well as athletes from other states in the Southeastern U.S.,” said FSF Senior Vice President Stephen Rodriguez.

While online registration has only recently opened, a St. Petersburg archer, Alan Biles, was the first registrant of this year’s Games.  He will compete in the recurve event in the 65-69 age group.  Biles won a silver medal in the event at the 2015 Florida Senior Games.

The 2016 Florida Senior Games is a program of the Florida Sports Foundation, the state’s lead sports promotion and development organization, held in conjunction with the City of Clearwater and the St. Petersburg/Clearwater Sports Commission.
