RANGERS RECEIVE LHP MIKE KICKHAM ON WAIVER CLAIM

FROM SEATTLE

Club options Kickham to Triple-A Round Rock; OF Ryan Rua transferred to 60-day disabled list

Arlington, Texas – The Texas Rangers announced today that the club has received left-handed Mike Kickham (kick-um) on a waiver claim from the Seattle Mariners and optioned him to Triple-A Round Rock of the Pacific Coast League.  To make room on the 40-man roster for Kickham, the Rangers have transferred outfielder Ryan Rua from the 15- to the 60-day disabled list.

Kickham, 26, was designated for assignment by Seattle on May 4. He was on option to Triple-A Tacoma, where he was 0-2 with a 7.29 ERA (21.0 IP, 18 H, 17 R-ER) in 5 starts in 2015. Opponents hit .243 in the 5 starts. He allowed 2 hits and 2 runs in 4.0 innings in his last start on May 2 versus Fresno.

Seattle acquired Kickham from the Chicago Cubs for RHP Lars Huijar on January 14, 2015. He had been claimed on waivers from the San Francisco Giants on December 23, 2014. Kickham had an 0-3 record in 14 appearances/3 starts with the Giants in 2013-14. He tied for 4th in the Pacific Coast League in strikeouts (131) in 2014.

Rua was placed on the 15-day disabled list on April 11 with a non-displaced fracture in his right heel sustained when he collided with the outfield wall on April 10. He is eligible to come off the 60-day DL on June 10.

With today’s moves, the Rangers still have a full 40-man roster, plus 9 players on the 60-day disabled list.
