RANGERS PLACE OF JIM ADDUCI ON 15-DAY DISABLED LIST;
RECALL INF LUIS SARDINAS FROM DOUBLE-A FRISCO
Arlington, Texas — The Texas Rangers announced today that the club has placed outfielder Jim Adduci on the 15-day disabled list with a fractured left little finger. To take his place on the roster, the club has recalled infielder Luis Sardinas (#3) from Double-A Frisco.
Adduci was injured in last night’s game against the Chicago White Sox while sliding head-first into second base on a tag-up play during the Rangers’ eventual 7-run 3rd inning. Adduci would go on to a 3-hit game, as he is batting .462 (6-13) in 9 games with Texas this season. The first date Adduci could return to the active roster would be May 4.
Sardinas, 20, will be in uniform tonight seeking to make his major league debut. He has hit safely 9 straight and 11 of 13 games overall with Frisco (AA) this season, batting .226 (12-53). He appeared in 10 Cactus League games with the Rangers this spring, batting .267 (4-15). The switch-hitting Sardinas was added to the 40-man roster last fall after combining to hit .288 (149-518) with 2 home runs, 46 RBI, and 32 stolen bases with Myrtle Beach (High-A) and Frisco in 2013. He was originally signed as a non-drafted free agent out of Venezuela at age 16 by Rafic Saab, Pedro Avila, and Mike Daly.
At 20 years and 338 days of age, Sardinas would be the youngest player to appear in a major league game this season after opening the campaign as the 4th-youngest player in the Texas League.
The Rangers now have 10 players on the disabled list, 5 each on the 15- and 60-day lists.
