RANGERS ACQUIRE OF DAN ROBERTSON FROM SAN DIEGO IN EXCHANGE FOR CASH CONSIDERATIONS AND PURCHASE HIS CONTRACT;

LHP PEDRO FIGUEROA PLACED ON 15-DAY DISABLED LIST

Oakland, Calif. — The Texas Rangers announced this morning that the club has acquired outfielder Dan Robertson (#19) from the San Diego Padres in exchange for cash considerations.  The team has purchased Robertson’s contract from Triple-A Round Rock and he will be in uniform and available for today’s series finale in Oakland.  The club has also placed left-handed pitcher Pedro Figueroa on the 15-day disabled list with left elbow inflammation.

The 28-year-old Robertson will be looking to make his major league debut.  He is batting .364 (8-22) with 2 home runs, 2 doubles, and 5 RBI in 5 games with El Paso this season after beginning the year on the disabled list with a left shin contusion.  He went 1-for-4 with a double, walk, and 2 runs in El Paso’s loss yesterday at Las Vegas.  The right-handed batter and thrower has spent his entire career in the Padres system since being selected in the 33rd round of the 2008 June draft out of Oregon State University.  He is a career .304 hitter in the minor leagues with 131 steals in 723 games.

Figueroa left his appearance last night after hitting a batter on his first and only pitch of the game.  He has gone 2-1 with a 4.00 ERA (4 ER/9.0 IP) over 10 relief appearances with the Rangers this season after being acquired on a waiver claim in the offseason.

Figueroa is the major league-high 11th Texas player currently on the disabled list.

With today’s moves, the Rangers now have a full 40-man roster.
