QUOTIDIAN THEATRE COMPANY
PRESENTS STORYTELLING DRAMA
“FAITH HEALER” BY BRIAN FRIEL

(Washington, DC) Following its wildly successful production of The Iceman Cometh, Quotidian Theatre Company soon opens the storytelling drama Faith Healer by Tony Award winning Irish playwright Brian Friel. The New York Times calls Friel’s play “a powerful piece of writing.” Quotidian’s production runs April 25 – May 25 at The Writer’s Center in downtown Bethesda.

The play concerns an Irish faith healer who travels through England, Ireland, Scotland, and Wales with his spouse Grace and his Cockney manager Teddy performing his “gift”, which sometimes fails him. Through a series of sometimes-conflicting monologues from the three characters, the audience learns the details of a man whose life is fraught with deception and self-denial, and the effect on those most loyal to him.

Washington Stage Guild founding member Laura Giannarelli directs WSC Avant Bard’s Christopher Henley and Quotidian actors Laura Russell and Nick Sampson in QTC’s third foray into Friel’s work after the family drama Dancing at Lughnasa and the Chekhov-inspired Afterplay

Rashomon-like in the way the three characters narrate the story of their intertwined lives from unique and often contradictory points of view,” says Giannarelli, “Faith Healer explores the nature of the human condition, human relationships, and the things we may never understand or be able to explain, but must come to terms with nevertheless. Brian Friel’s play allows each actor to take a very personal, often painful, sometimes very funny journey into the past. Audience members will be privy to the private musings of three fascinating people. We are privileged to have three terrific actors to bring these characters to life with their intimate portrayals.”

Giannarelli describes Faith Healer as “mysterious and marvelous”, and says audiences will find that the title character’s self-doubt “will resonate in surprising ways.”
