NPR Music has premiered the music video for Benjamin Clementine’s “Nemesis,” one of the four remarkable songs on Clementine’s EP I dream, I smile, I walk, I cry, which is available today in the U.S. on Capitol Records. “Clementine has been stirring hearts abroad with his awe-inspiring voice,” writes NPR Music, adding that “Nemesis” “fumes and bellows, full of bluster and fire as Clementine reflects on past grievances.” The London-born, Paris-based artist will make his New York City debut tonight at Joe’s Pub followed by a performance at BRIC House in Brooklyn on April 29. Watch the video for “Nemesis” here.

Rolling Stone recently named Clementine one of their “New Artists You Need to Know,” while MOJO raved about his “intoxicating torch songs of estrangement and passion.” Pigeons & Planes wrote that “‘Cornerstone’ is a quite frankly brilliant song…Spine-tingling stuff,” referring to another of the original songs that appears on the new EP. The Guardian observed, “His power and presence are unmistakable” and The Independent hailed Clementine as a “distinctive and impressive new voice.” He received the “Best New Act” honors at 2015’s Les Victoires de la Musique, the French equivalent of the GRAMMY Awards. Born in London, Clementine began teaching himself the keyboard at age 11, influenced first by Erik Satie and later by such artists as Antony and the Johnsons and Leonard Cohen. He moved to Paris at age 20, where he busked on the Metro to support himself, building a cult following in the process. After making his U.K. television debut on Later…with Jools Holland, Clementine became the most-shared artist on Spotify. At Least for Now, his debut album, topped the iTunes chart in France and reached the Top 10 in 11 other territories in early 2015. Plans are currently being made for a U.S. release of the album later this year. He has sold out headline shows across Europe, including London, Paris, Amsterdam and Berlin, and opened for such artists as Cat Power, tUnE-yArDs and Woodkid. He recently performed at Burberry’s star-studded London in Los Angeles event, as well as at film festivals in Cannes and Normandy.
