What is a Fogartyville?

The original Fogartyville Café used to be located in Bradenton near the Bradenton City Public Works building on 17th Avenue between 9th and 6th streets. It was a fairly large rambling old road house type of place. Lots of blues groups, jazz concerts, and political rallies, etc. When the city of Bradenton renovated McKechnie Field (spring training home for the Pittsburg Pirates) they turned the Fog into a parking lot, hence its move to Sarasota.

In Sarasota it is now at 525 Kumquat Court just north of 4th Street behind The Blue Rooster and Darwin’s restaurant. All are happening places but the most happening one on February 16th is the Fogartyville.

The Michael Ross 5 will be playing at the Fogartyville Café starting at 6 PM. Tickets are $10 in advance and $12 at the door.

Tickets may be purchased at:

Small jazz groups come in various combinations, duos, trios, quartets and quintets being the most popular. The nice thing about a quintet like the Michael Ross 5 is the mix of piano, bass and drums augmented by guitar and saxophone/flute. Some really great sounds.

The players are:
Michael Ross, bass

Danny Jordan, saxophone and flute

LaRue Nickelson, guitar

Patrick Bettison, piano and

Walt Hubbard, drums

Rating for The Michael Ross 5    “STRONGLY RECOMMENDED”

The All Music Guide states that “Bassist Michael Ross and his quartet might signify the best-kept secret in modern jazz”

Hope to see you there at 6 PM on February 16th.
