Mayor Garcetti will unveil the L.A. region’s nuclear halo detection devices and equipment. In 2013, Mayor Garcetti and the Department of Homeland Security’s Domestic Nuclear Detection Office announced federal funding to train and outfit first responders and other law enforcement agents with personal nuclear detection devices to help generate a nuclear detection ring around the L.A. area and warn against possible attacks.
“My primary mission is to keep Los Angeles safe. We must be prepared for every contingency,” Mayor Garcetti said. “By creating a detection halo around our region, we’ll get an early warning of threats which will accelerate response times and could help stop an attack before it begins.”
