“[‘Night Lies’ is] full of lush, sweeping pop craft tinged with electro energy,” – Stereogum
“A fun, upbeat melody, a cacophony of intense electronic sound, and the vocals set in, intricately woven around the music. At times, his raspy voice takes on a more rap-style vocal, and you couldn’t keep up if you tried.” – Impose Magazine
“[‘I Wear Glasses’] clearly, is a work of art with a lot of thought behind it” – Indie Shuffle
“Part new age and part post punk, Mating Ritual advocates imitation as the sincerest form of flattery with ‘Fake It.'” – Ones to Watch

Rising LA artist Mating Ritual have premiered an atmospheric new single today, “Night Lies,” featuring guest vocals from former collaborator and indie darling Lizzy Land. PRESS HERE to listen via Stereogum. The track is the second to be released from the band’s debut album How You Gonna Stop It?, which will be released as two six-track volumes – Volume 1 on January 24, and Volume 2 in April of this year. PRESS HERE to listen to the frenetic title track, which premiered last month and has received praise from Impose, Baeble + more, and has been played on BBC Radio 1.
Mating Ritual’s Ryan Marshall Lawhon’s inability to sit still is his driving force in the creation of his music. Forever pushing the boundaries of songwriting and production, he creates complex yet catchy songs that question the traditional ideals of genre classification. After the hiatus of his prior band Pacific Air, Ryan cranked up his songwriting prolificacy and found immense freedom in the world of independent recording and created what he calls Post-Genre-Pop under the alias Mating Ritual.

How You Gonna Stop It? was recorded over a two year period in apartments, garages and lofts all over Los Angeles county, as well as several traditional studios and one five-day cruise to Puerto Vallarta. The end result was a collection of songs that juxtaposes vision and clarity with varying fidelity and grit to create an unexpected textural experience. The album pulls from sounds that bridge decades of music, from New Order’s bass heavy structures and Enya’s atmospheric synth pads, to the rhythmic guitar melodies of The Strokes and Grimes ‘kitchen sink’ production flourishes.
Beginning January 28, 2017 in San Francisco, Mating Ritual will embark on a headlining tour, including stops in Los Angeles, Seattle, Denver + more. For more information and to purchase tickets, visit www.matingritualsounds.com.
