DENVER – Local Non-Profit, Mission Wear, to Hold Third Annual Fashion Show/Silent Auction Fundraiser on Thursday May 12, 2016 at the Summit Church in RiNo.
Mission Wear, a Denver-based non-profit is on a mission to raise awareness and support with their third annual fashion show, Thursday, May 12th at 5:30pm at the Summit Church in RiNo at 3300 Larimer Street in Denver. This popular event is returning for Spring with a theme of PatchWORK which will focus on eco-friendly clothing and accessories provided by Mission Wear, the show’s fashion sponsor, birds & belles boutique and local Denver designers.
PatchWORK Fashion Show and Fundraiser is a night to give back and celebrate social responsibility with eco-fashion, music and Denver’s culture. The highlight of the evening is a contest of emerging Denver artists and student designers who compete to construct durable, recycled pieces out of materials that would normally go to a landfill. The winning design will be on display at birds & belles boutique for the month of June and awarded a scholarship from Fashion Group International.
Mission Wear, a non-profit sewing business, was established in 2006 and aims to provide women with employment challenges a place to gain skills and the confidence to rejoin the workforce and support themselves and their families. As part of this goal, Mission Wear exclusively uses reclaimed materials to make their totes, messenger and laptop bags.
“We are passionate about helping women who are recovering from substance abuse or have a history of felony or homelessness,” explains Mission Wear founder, Beth Massey. “These women often want to work, but are not given the chance to prove that.”
This year the PatchWORK theme embraces the addition of Miracles, a program developed with Mile High Behavioral Health to teach women in recovery to sew quilts for family members, men and women in the military. These beautiful quilts will be for sale at the event as well as other sustainable products.
PatchWORK Fashion Show and Fundraiser will allow several women who have participated in both sewing programs to show off their hard work. Models will wear Mission Wear bags with clothing by birds & belles boutique, a vintage and resale boutique located in West Wash Park. Hair design and makeup is provided by Life Spa Westminster and Paul Mitchell School of Denver. The Miller-Coors Company and Bodegas Monte La Reina will provide Beer and wine.
“It is an amazing experience to aid in giving women another chance. Their stories come alive with our clothing on the runway,” says Kyla DeTienne, owner of birds & belles boutique. “Mission Wear continues to provide quality merchandise through their programs to the customers of birds & belles, and we couldn’t be more proud of the work they are doing in our community.”
