Kate MacFall of Humane Society of the United States (HSUS) regarding Florida Panthers “less than 180 remaining”; “FWC Commissioner who is a rancher whose land covers prime panther habitat” seeks to “to destroy conflict panthers”

Kate MacFall, state representative with the Humane Society of the United States (HSUS) stopped by yesterday to get our support for saving the FL Panthers – of which there are less than 180 remaining.
There will be a commissioners meeting this Tuesday, June 23, at the Hyatt Regency Sarasota at 1:30 p.m.

We need to show our immediate support of this cat before officials decide to make decisions that could potentially reduce their numbers.
I will be there, and hope that 100 of you will join me.
Thank you.

An FWC Commissioner who is a rancher and whose land covers a huge amount of prime panther habitat is behind this effort. On June 23, FWC will discuss its recently released a memo and position paper on the Florida panther. This effort is likely aimed at reducing panther protections and limiting the recovery area, increasing the state’s ability to destroy conflict panthers, and may be a first step towards Federal downlisting and possibly a hunt in the future.
