92Y and STARZ announce a special advance screening of the series poised to be the hottest television event of the summer: “Outlander.” The screening will be followed by a panel discussion featuring lead cast members Caitriona Balfe,  Sam Heughan and Tobias Menzies, series executive producer Ronald D. Mooreand Diana Gabaldon, author of the international best-selling books from which “Outlander” is adapted. The event takes place on Monday, July 28 at 8 pm.

 

“Outlander”, spans the genres of romance, science fiction, history and adventure into one epic tale and is set to premiere on STARZ August 9 at 9pm ET/PT.

 

“Outlander” follows the story of Claire Randall (Caitriona Balfe), a married combat nurse from 1945 who is mysteriously swept back in time to 1743, and immediately thrown into an unknown world where her life is threatened. When she is forced to marry Jamie (Sam Heughan), a chivalrous and romantic young Scottish warrior, a passionate affair is ignited that tears Claire’s heart between two vastly different men in two irreconcilable lives.

 

CAITRIONA BALFE (Claire Randall)

Caitriona Balfe was most recently seen in Escape Plan, opposite Arnold Schwarzenegger and Sylvester Stallone. Previous credits for the Irish-born actress include the Warner Bros. feature Now You See Me, J.J. Abrams’ feature Super 8 as well as Bryan Singer and Jason Taylor’s limited digital series “H+.” Caitriona can next be seen in the independent feature The Price of Desire.

 

SAM HEUGHAN (Jamie Fraser)

Sam Heughan is a graduate of the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama. In 2003 he was nominated for a Laurence Olivier Award for Most Promising Performance for his role in David Greig’s Outlaying Islands at The Royal Court and Traverse Theatre. Sam originated the role of ‘Batman’ in the 2011 international touring production of “Batman Live.” His British TV movie credits include “Breaking the Mould,” “A Very British Sex Scandal,” and “First Light.” He was nominated for a Grace Award for his performance as ‘Prince Ashton,’ the son of Sir Roger Moore, in “A Princess for Christmas” for Hallmark Channel. His film credits include the short film Small Moments, and the feature films Young Alexander the Great and Emulsion. He will also be seen in the upcoming film Heart of Lightness, which was filmed in Norway in the Arctic Circle.

 

TOBIAS MENZIES (Frank Randall/ Jonathan “Black Jack” Randall)

British actor Tobias Menzies was most recently seen in HBO’s “Game of Thrones” as heir of Riverrun, ‘Edmure Tully.’ Internationally, he is best known for his role as ‘Brutus’ in HBO’s “Rome.” His other television credits include “The Shadow Line” alongside Chiwetel Ejiofor and Stephen Rea, Charlie Brooker’s “Black Mirror,” the political satire “The Thick of It,” and he will soon be appearing with Maggie Gyllenhaal in the upcoming mini-series “The Honourable Woman” created by Hugo Blick. Tobias scored a significant film role aside Dame Judy Dench in the 2006 reboot of the James Bond franchise, Casino Royale, and further film credits include AtonementThe Duel and Finding Neverland.

 

DIANA GABALDON (Book Series Author)

RONALD D. MOORE (Executive Producer, Writer)

Ronald D. Moore is the Executive Producer/Writer on the STARZ Original Series “Outlander.” Deeply rooted in the sci-fi genre, Moore got his start in the entertainment business on the writing staff of “Star Trek: The Next Generation.” During his tenure there, he wrote or co-wrote 27 episodes, including the two-hour series finale “All Good Things,” for which he won a Hugo Award in 1994. That same year, Moore was honored with an Emmy® Award nomination and was eventually promoted to Producer.

In 1994, Moore joined the writing staff of “Star Trek: Deep Space Nine” as Supervising Producer and was elevated to Co-Executive Producer the following year.Moore spent five seasons on the series until the end of its successful run in 1999. Moore also served briefly as Executive Consultant on the USA cable series “Good vs. Evil” before joining the staff of “Roswell” as Executive Producer. After two seasons in that post, he took over the reins as Showrunner from Creator Jason Katims in its final year. In the fall of 2002, Moore was named Showrunner and Executive Producer of HBO’s critically-acclaimed one-hour drama “Carnivàle.” In 2003, Moore created the re-imagined series, “Battlestar Galactica,” and served as Showrunner/Executive Producer of the series, which ran for four seasons. “Battlestar Galactica” was honored with a prestigious Peabody® Award and twice as an official selection of the AFI (American Film Institute) top television programs for 2005 and 2006.  In 2006, Moore was nominated for an Emmy Award for Best Writing in a Dramatic Series, and in 2008, he won an Emmy for the “Battlestar Galactica” webisodes.  In 2008, Moore co-wrote the pilot to the spin-off series “Caprica,” a drama set 58 years before the events of “Battlestar Galactica.”  He served as Executive Producer for the run of the series. In 2010, Moore’s production company, Tall Ship Productions, signed an overall deal with Sony Television to develop and produce television series.  In addition to “Outlander” he is currently supervising “Helix” for the SyFy network.
