AN ALL-BEETHOVEN PROGRAM

ON JUILLIARD’S DANIEL SAIDENBERG FACULTY RECITAL SERIES

TUESDAY, OCTOBER 14, 2014 AT 8 PM IN JUILLIARD’S PAUL HALL

NEW YORK ––  Juilliard faculty members, violinist Catherine Cho and pianist Robert McDonald will perform an all-Beethoven program on Tuesday, October 14, 2014 at 8 PM in Paul Hall, presented as part of Juilliard’s Daniel Saidenberg Faculty Recital Series. The program features Beethoven’s Sonata No. 1 in D Major, Op. 12, No. 1; Sonata No. 10 in G Major, Op. 96; and Sonata No. 7 in C Minor, Op. 30, No. 2. Ms. Cho and Mr. McDonald perform frequently together as a duo, and last season they gave recitals at the Seoul Arts Center in Seoul, Korea and at the Peabody Institute in Baltimore, Maryland.

 

Tickets at $30 are available at events.juilliard.edu or at the Janet and Leonard Kramer Box Office at Juilliard. Student tickets at $15 are available only at the Juilliard Box Office. Box Office hours are Monday through Friday from 11 AM to 6 PM.

 

Catherine Cho’s orchestral engagements have included performances with the Detroit and National symphony orchestras, Virginia Symphony, the Montreal, Edmonton, and National Arts Centre orchestras in Canada, the Korean Broadcasting Symphony, Daekon Philharmonic and Seoul Philharmonic in Korea, Barcelona Symphony, Orchestra of the Teatro Colón in Buenos Aires, New Zealand Symphony Orchestra, and the Aspen Chamber Symphony. She has toured Israel with the Haifa Symphony and was the soloist on a concert tour of Japan and Korea with the Juilliard Orchestra. As a recitalist and chamber musician, Ms. Cho has performed on the prestigious stages of Alice Tully Hall with the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center, the Mozarteum in Salzburg, Casals Hall in Tokyo as a member of the Casals Hall Ensemble, The Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C., the Metropolitan Museum of Art, The Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum in Boston, and on Ravinia’s “Rising Stars” series in Chicago. A recipient of the Avery Fisher Career Grant in 1995, Ms. Cho has also won top prizes at several international competitions.

 

American pianist Robert McDonald has performed throughout the United States, Europe, Latin America, and Asia both as a solo recitalist, and for many years, as recital partner to Isaac Stern and other distinguished instrumentalists. He has appeared with major orchestras in the United States and Europe. As a chamber musician, he has performed with the Juilliard, American, Takács, Muir, Brentano, St. Lawrence, Vermeer, Borromeo, and Shanghai string quartets, as well as with Musicians from Marlboro. In addition, Mr. McDonald has given concerts for the Lincoln Center Chamber Music Society, the Chicago Chamber Musicians, NHK, and BBC television worldwide. His discography includes recordings for Sony Classical, Vox, Bridge, Musical Heritage Society, ASV, and CRI. He is a member of the piano faculties of Juilliard and the Curtis Institute of Music. Mr. McDonald is winner of the Gold Medal at the Busoni International Competition, and the top prizes at both the William Kapell International Competition, and the Washington International Competition.
