Jazz Club of Sarasota announces five concerts in January:

SARASOTA, FL: The Jazz Club of Sarasota has a full slate of concerts for January with one scheduled for every Friday of the month and another on Sunday, January 22.

 

Jazz at Two: The Club continues this popular Friday afternoon series on January 6, 13 and 20 from 2 to 4 p.m. at Unitarian Universalist Church, 3975 Fruitville Rd., Sarasota. Tickets for are sold at the door at $10 for Jazz Club members and $15 for guests. One dollar of every ticket sale is allocated to the Club’s Scholarship Fund. On Friday evening, January 20, at 7:30 p.m., the Jazz Club presents the Eddie Metz Jr. Trio with special guest Harry Allen at Riverview Performing Arts Center, and on Sunday afternoon, January 22, the Marc Mannino Quintet performs from 2-4 p.m. in a free concert at Centennial Park Gazebo in Venice.

 

 

JANUARY

  • Friday, January 6, Jazz at Two. The Ed Rolnick Quartet plays music from the Great American Songbook, bossa novas, ballads and jazz standards. Rolnick handles sax and vocals for the combo, with Matt Bokulic on keyboard, Peter Innocente on bass and Johnny Moore on drums.

 

  • Friday, January 13, Jazz at Two. Kitt Moran is the vocalist for the Kitt Moran Quartet, accompanied by her husband, pianist Mike Moran; bassist Dominic Mancini; and drummer Dane Hassan. Kitt has performed in many NYC and New Jersey clubs and Atlantic City casinos, including eight years at Merv Griffin’s Resorts International.

 

  • Friday, January 20, Evening Concert, 7:30 p.m. The Eddie Metz Jr. Trio with special guest Harry Allen. American drummer Eddie Metz Jr. heads his trio of internationally acclaimed musicians, which includes Australian bassist/vocalist Nicki Parrott and Italian pianist Rossano Sportiello. Special guest artist Harry Allen contributes his highly regarded talents on saxophone.  Riverview Performing Arts Center, 1 Ram Way, Sarasota. Students are admitted free to this concert.   • Sunday, January 22, Joy of Jazz Concert, 2-4 p.m. FREE! The Marc Mannino Jazz Quintet will play music from the Great American Songbook, jazz instrumentals and popular music with a jazz feel. Mannino leads the group on guitar with George Mancini on trombone, John Miller on bass and Bob Lunergan on drums. Shari Morningstar is vocalist for the group.   • Friday, January 27, Jazz at Two. Mary Rademacher Reed with pianist Eddie Tobin and his friends. Vocalist Mary Rademacher Reed has performed for presidents Ronald Reagan and George H. W. Bush. She was named the West Michigan Jazz Society Musician of the Year in 2006. She is known for bringing humor, dance and charm to her performances.
