Los Angeles – Dec. 17, 2015 – HDNET MOVIES rings in the New Year with an A-list lineup of themed blocks highlighting box office hits throughout January. The month roars to life with the gargantuan “Creature Features” Marathon on New Year’s Day beginning at 3:30pE, as Casper Van Dien takes on giant alien insects in a futuristic wasteland in STARSHIP TROOPERS, with Denise Richards and Neil Patrick Harris. Next, the “King of All Monsters” takes a bite out of the Big Apple in the premiere of the 1998 blockbuster GODZILLA, starring Matthew Broderick, Hank Azaria, and Jean Reno at 5:40pE; and Sigourney Weaver battles a deadly extraterrestrial stowaway in the premiere of Ridley Scott’s director’s cut of the Oscar®-winning sci-fi epic ALIEN, with Tom Skerritt and John Hurt, at 8pE. The network premiere of DISTRICT 9, Neill Blomkamp’s celebrated tale of aliens and apartheid in South Africa, starring Sharlto Copley, follows at 10pE and wrestling legend Roddy Piper uncovers an alien conspiracy in the 1988 John Carpenter opus THEY LIVE, with Keith David, at 1:55aE.

Crime pays on HDNET MOVIES with the four-film “Friday Night Heist” block on January 15. The event begins at 4:25pE, as Sam Worthington creates an elaborate diversion to pull off the world’s greatest diamond heist in the premiere of MAN ON A LEDGE, with Elizabeth Banks and Ed Harris. Then, at 6:10pE, five wrongly accused cons seek revenge against the police in Bryan Singer’s Oscar®-winning drama THE USUAL SUSPECTS, with Kevin Spacey, Gabriel Byrne, and Benicio Del Toro. The 2008 drama 21 follows at 8pE, starring Kevin Spacey as an MIT professor who trains six students to count cards, cleaning Vegas casinos out of millions in this based-on-a-true story that also stars Laurence Fishburne and Josh Gad. The tribute kicks off at 8 p.m., with Nicholson as a psycho therapist who uses unconventional methods to get timid businessman Adam Sandler back on track in the network premiere of ANGER MANAGEMENT, with Marisa Tomei, Kevin Nealon, and Woody Harrelson. Then, Nicholson gives an Oscar®-winning performance as a miserly author who strikes up an unlikely friendship with an artist and a single mother in James L.
