Olympia Dukakis Presents a Greek Theatre Workshop
March 3-7, 2015
WHAT:
Academy Award®-winning actress Olympia Dukakis arrives in Sarasota next Tuesday to present an exclusive week-long workshop for the 2016 class of the FSU/Asolo Conservatory for Actor Training. Capping a year of inspiring workshops studying stage combat, mime and movement, musical theatre and more, students will receive intimate and intense training on the art of Greek theatre under one of the leading experts of classical performance.

“Greek theater inspires me because of its willingness to confront suffering and loss as a measure of ourselves and of the world around us,” said Dukakis. “My hope is that the students will take away the confidence that they have within themselves the ability to understand and perform these plays.”

Scheduled the week prior to rehearsals for the season’s final production, The Cherry Orchard, Dukakis’ workshop will equip the twelve second-year students with invaluable skills for both the season’s finale and their transition to the Mertz stage the following year as they join Asolo Repertory Theatre’s professional acting company.
