Dayton, Ohio—Fort Wayne pitchers Ernesto Montas and Colby Blueberg combined on a six-hit shutout as the TinCaps defeated the Dayton Dragons 1-0 on Friday night. A crowd of 8,060 saw the game at Fifth Third Field.

The TinCaps won both games in the brief two-game set in Dayton. The two teams will now shift the series to Fort Wayne for games on Saturday and Sunday.

Fort Wayne scored the only run of the game in the second inning when Luis Tejada doubled to right-center field and eventually scored on a one-out single by Jose Ruiz.

The Dragons best chance to score came in the bottom of the eighth inning. Jimmy Pickens led off with a double to right-center and went to third on Jonathan Reynoso’s sacrifice. But Blueberg struck out both Luis Gonzalez and Argenis Aldazoro to end the threat, stranding the tying run at third.

Dragons starting pitcher Junior Morillo (1-3) worked six innings, allowing eight hits and one run with two walks and two strikeouts to take the loss.

Six different Dayton players had one hit apiece. Pickens and Reynoso, with doubles, had the only two extra base hits.

The Dragons (4-5 in the second half; 43-36 overall) travel to Fort Wayne (6-3, 38-39) for a two-game stop beginning Saturday night at 6:35. Tyler Mahle (7-5, 3.07) will start for the Dragons against Fort Wayne’s Thomas Dorminy (6-5, 4.00). The Dragons will play at Bowling Green Monday and Tuesday before returning home on Wednesday.

All Dragons games are broadcast on radio on Fox Sports 980 WONE and on the internet at wone.com. Games are also available on the Dayton Dragons mobile app.

Notes: Prior to Friday’s game, the Dragons announced that second baseman Ronald Bueno has been transferred to Daytona. Infielder Cory Thompson replaced him on the roster. Thompson, a fifth round draft pick in 2013, missed the first half of the season with a shoulder injury.
