FORMER MAJOR LEAGUER CLYDE MASHORE PASSES AWAY AT AGE 70

Arlington, Texas — Former major league outfielder Clyde Mashore passed away on Sunday at his home in Brentwood, California at the age of 70.

Mr. Mashore is the father of Rangers major league assistant hitting coach Justin Mashore and former big league outfielder Damon Mashore. The senior Mashore spent parts of five seasons in the majors with the Cincinnati Reds (1969) and Montreal Expos (1970-73), producing eight homers and 47 RBI in 241 games.

A four-sport athlete at Clayton Valley High School in Concord, CA, Mr. Mashore signed as an amateur free agent with Cincinnati in 1964. The right-handed batter made his major league debut with the Reds in 1969 and was traded to the Expos prior to the 1970 season. He appeared in a career best 93 games in 1972.

Justin Mashore is in his first season as the Rangers’ assistant hitting coach after spending 2014 and 2015 as the hitting coach at Triple-A Round Rock. He is in his fifth overall season with the Texas organization after nine years with the Toronto Blue Jays. Damon Mashore, who is currently a minor league coach in the Dodgers system, played in the majors with the A’s (1996-97) and Angels (1998).

Mr. Mashore’s grandson, Richard Rodgers, just completed his second season as a tight end for the Green Bay Packers after being selected in the third round of the 2014 draft from the University of California.
