“DROP EVERYTHING AND READ” TO THE ANIMALS!

JOIN THE CHILDREN’S ZOO FOR STORYBOOK SAFARI ON APRIL 11

In celebration of “Drop Everything and Read” month, the Saint Louis Zoo invites children to an interactive Storybook Safari at the Emerson Children’s Zoo on Saturday, April 11 from 9 to 10 a.m. Kids can gather ‘round as a zookeeper reads an animal-themed book and then presents a live animal from the story.

Children are also encouraged to bring along their favorite books from home and read aloud to the animals, including pygmy goats, alpacas, meerkats, fennec foxes, rabbits, guinea pigs and more—all found at the Children’s Zoo.

“The program is designed to give children an opportunity to practice their reading skills with the patient and appreciative audience of the Zoo’s animals. It also provides unique enrichment for the animals,” says Alice Seyfried, Fred Saigh Curator of the Emerson Children’s Zoo.

Young readers are invited to read to the animals any day of the week year-round. Admission to the Children’s Zoo is free from 9-10 a.m. every day in spring, and from 8-9 a.m. in summer. After the free hour, the admission charge for Children’s Zoo is $4 per person; children under age 2 are free. Books will not be provided during this event; individuals should bring their own for personal use.
