Daktronics to BUILD First-of-its-Kind Circular LED Video Display Board for New Atlanta Stadium

Largest in All of Sports

ATLANTA, GA. – Jan. 30, 2015 – The Atlanta Falcons today announced that Daktronics (NASDAQ-DAKT) of Brookings, South Dakota has been selected to build a never-been-done-before circular LED video display for the new Atlanta stadium.  The stadium will open in 2017 and will be home to the Falcons and MLS Atlanta, the city’s newly awarded Major League Soccer club.

Totaling approximately 63,800 square feet, this non-traditional LED video display will be more than five stories high and three times as large as the current largest single display board in the NFL. Referred to as the ‘halo’ board, this engineering innovation is truly groundbreaking, a design first in any stadium worldwide. Built into the new Atlanta stadium’s unique retractable roof structure, the halo board will be positioned above the center of the field and will measure approximately 58 feet high by 1,100 feet in circumference.

“The LED video halo board Daktronics is building for the new Atlanta stadium is a game changer in every way,” said Atlanta Falcons President & CEO Rich McKay. “Our goal at the outset was to reimagine the stadium experience, and the halo board is consistent with this vision. It’s a display that has never been created before with the latest technology, and we are thrilled that Daktronics is helping us to deliver this unique experience to our fans and guests.”

The halo board will provide all of today’s modern LED video capabilities including full HD video and instant replay. It will also be divided into multiple sections to highlight video, scoring and statistics, graphics and animations, and other game information.

“This ‘halo’ display is really a test of engineering capabilities and architecture coordination that our team at Daktronics is proud to accomplish,” said Daktronics CEO Reece Kurtenbach. “Installing such a non-traditional display shows our depth and capabilities as a company beyond common rectangle shapes as we strive to provide our customers with complete solutions, no matter what their aspirations may be for their video displays and overall fan experience at their venue.”

In addition to the halo board, Daktronics will be installing LED boards that total over 20,000 additional square feet. This includes multiple ribbon boards around the stadium as well as the field level display for Major League Soccer games.

Daktronics will also include its powerful Show Control System with the halo board installation. This industry-leading system provides a combination of display control software, world-class video processing, data integration and playback hardware that forms a user-friendly production solution.
