Curtis and Penderecki in New York

The Curtis 20/21 Ensemble debuts in Carnegie’s Zankel Hall on March 20—and Curtis e-News readers receive a 50% discount on tickets ordered from Carnegie Hall (use promo code CTS19000). The all-Penderecki program, repeating in Philadelphia on March 22 in concert and through live stream on Curtis Performs, will be led by the composer.

Curtis Presents: Alan Morrison

Curtis’s newest recital series, Curtis Presents, features organ faculty member Alan Morrison on Sunday, March 23 at 3 p.m. at Field Concert Hall. Also a gifted pianist, he’ll perform in both capacities alongside fellow Curtis alumni Matthew Glandorf, organ; Michelle Cann, piano; John Koen, cello; and Karen Slack, soprano. Also note the final Curtis Presents event of the season: Flute faculty member Jeffrey Khaner performs on April 5.

Overtones Has Arrived

Speaking of faculty, get to know violinist Ida Kavafian in the cover story of the Spring 2014 Overtones—in the mail now. Overtones takes you behind the scenes at Curtis, and is sent twice a year to alumni, Friends of Curtis, and performance subscribers. To receive Overtones, join the Friends today.

Make Music This Summer—Register by April 1

There’s a Curtis Summerfest program for you or someone you know! Sign up by April 1 for special workshops for flute and double bass players and adult amateur chamber musicians, or a three-week residential program for high school–aged musicians.

Grand Season Finale Gala Honors the Lenfests

Join us on April 13 at 8 p.m. for the Curtis Symphony Orchestra’s season-finale performance, with Ignat Solzhenitsyn conducting. Before the concert, the annual gala at the Kimmel Center honors H. F. “Gerry” and Marguerite Lenfest for their transformational support of Curtis. All proceeds benefit the Student Assistance Fund. Register now to attend!

Just Posted on Curtis Performs

Hear chamber music by recent composition graduate Thomas Oltarzewski on Curtis Performs: Weather Music was inspired by the arrival of Hurricane Sandy on the East Coast in October 2012. And mark your calendar for March 31, when this year’s student composers will showcase their orchestral works on the Student Recital Series.
