The music of Johann Sebastian Bach lives on today thanks to his robust catalogue of works — but what happened during his lifetime? Learn more about Bach’s life here and celebrate the renowned composer’s birthday (officially on March 21) with iconic violinist Jaime Laredo and his student-turned-star Jennifer Koh. The dynamic duo team up to perform Bach’s Concerto in D minor for Two Violins and Anna Clyne‘s Prince of Clouds, a Baroque-style concerto co-commissioned by LACO. London-born Clyne will be in attendance for the concert to introduce the West Coast premiere of her work that was inspired by Laredo and Koh’s artistic family tree. You’re welcome to continue the celebration after the concert with free drinks and appetizers to enjoy with your friends and LACO musicians.

Richard Montoya, founding member of the Chicano performance troupe Culture Clash, continues LACO’s LA Influential series as he explores the controversial history of Chavez Ravine, the immigrant community that is now home to the Los Angeles Dodgers Stadium. You can also follow Montoya on Facebook for more of the comedian’s musings.

The program includes two string quartets that provide thought-provoking musical context for the second Westside Connections concert. It also features works by Carlos Chávez, a cultural force who synthesized elements of Mexican, Indian and Spanish influence in his compositional style.
