Renowned musician Canadian virtuoso clarinetist Julian Milkis and the Russian ensemble Siberian Virtuosi perform together in their collaboration, bringing an international flavor to the program “From Baroque to Jazz Classics” on October 25, 2016 as part of their American tour with other performances on the East Coast, and Midwest. Vibrant, colorful and mood-filled works from the baroque to classical and jazz genres by such masters as Johann Sebastian Bach, George Frideric Handel, Pablo Sarasate, Franz Schubert, Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky and Gioacchino Rossini, to Antonio Bazzini, George Gershwin, and modern composers including Aram Khachaturian, Astor Piazzolla, Alexey Shor, and Benny Goodman among others are arranged for solo and ensemble performances.

One of today’s leading clarinetists, and the only student of clarinet icon Benny Goodman, Juilliard trained artist Julian Milkis has garnered an international reputation as a soloist, chamber musician, recitalist, and jazz clarinetist. He has performed worldwide, appearing on such prominent stages as New York’s Carnegie Hall and Lincoln Center, Salle Pleyel and Salle Gaveau in Paris, the St. Petersburg Philharmonic, Roy Thomson Hall and Weston Recital Hall in Toronto, and the National Concert Hall in Taipei, to name a few. His numerous solo appearances include such esteemed orchestras as the Toronto Symphony, State Symphony Orchestra of Russia, St. Petersburg Philharmonic, Novosibirsk Philharmonic, Moscow State Symphony Orchestra, Vivaldi Chamber Orchestra, Hamburg Mozarteum, Edmonton Symphony, L’Orchestre Nationale de Lyon, L’Orchestre Symphonique Francaise, CBC Vancouver Orchestra, Hermitage Chamber Orchestra and Musica Viva, among others.

Celebrating 22 years this season, the Russian ensemble Siberian Virtuosi (the State Ensemble of the Republic of Yakutia) has performed in 14 European and Asian countries, including France, the United Kingdom, Austria, Italy, Germany, Israel, China and South Korea. Since its founding in 1994, the Ensemble has given over 1,300 concerts. Comprising 11 violinists and one pianist, this is the Ensemble’s third North American tour, following their successful Carnegie Hall appearance in December 2015, and a recent 6-country tour to South America in the fall of 2014.
