Celebrate Farm City Week at the Bradenton Farmer’s Market

Local Students to Showcase Agricultural Leadership Projects Nov. 12

 

BRADENTON, Fla. — The Bradenton Farmers’ Market is proud to be the host location for Farm City Week 2016 in Manatee County. In celebration of this year’s theme Youth in Agriculture, local Future Farmers of America students and 4-H Club Members will be demonstrating and displaying various projects focused on agriculture and leadership. The event will take place in conjunction with the Bradenton Farmers’ Market on Nov. 12, 2016, from 9 a.m.–2 p.m.

 

“We are excited to have students from Future Farmers of America and 4-H Club Members showcase their projects with our community. We saw this as a perfect way to continue educating and promoting the fresh foods that are found at the Bradenton Farmers’ Market,” said Peg Haynes, market manager for the Bradenton Farmers’ Market.

 

Participants include:

 

  • Future Farmers of America (FFA)
    Students from Buffalo Creek Middle, Lincoln Middle, Braden River High, and Palmetto High will be participatingFFA is a student organization for those interested in agriculture and leadership that combines classroom education with hands-on lab experiences and out-of-class activities to best prepare students for an agriculture related career.
  • 4-H Clubs in Manatee County
    Members of the 4-H Youth Council, Home Grown Heritage, Mighty 4-H’ers of Duette, and Manatee County Jr. Cattlemen’s 4-H Clubs are attending. 4-H is an educational program for young people, ages 5–18, that provides instructive experiences through a “learn by doing” approach. The 4-H program is geared toward the positive development of the “Head, Heart, Hands, and Health” of youth and is the largest educational youth organization free to all participants.

 

Farm City Week is an annual event celebrating the positive relationships between farm families and city residents. Events will be held throughout Florida, Nov. 9–19, 2016.

About the Bradenton Farmers’ Market

The Bradenton Farmers’ Market, a production of Realize Bradenton, features more than 30 vendors who offer locally grown fruits, vegetables, plants, organic products, prepared foods, and the work of local artists and craftspeople. Live music, demonstrations by local chefs, and free family activities are also part of the fun.
