FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Canton Youth Symphony Announces Audition Dates for the 2014-2015 Season

CANTON, OH  (August 5, 2014) – The Canton Youth Symphony (CYS) will be holding auditions Sunday, August 17th; Wednesday, August 20th; Wednesday, August 27th and Wednesday, September 3 in preparation for its 2014-2015 season.  Auditions will be held at the Zimmermann Symphony Center at 2331 17th St NW, Canton, OH 44708. To schedule an audition, call Lisa Boyer, Director of Education and Community Engagement at (330) 452-3434 ext. 604.

By providing orchestral experience, exposure to world class musicians, and challenging repertoire, the CYS creates an exciting opportunity for young students. In addition, the orchestra will perform alongside the Canton Symphony Orchestra during the annual holiday pops concert.  In keeping with its mission of educating young members of the community, the CYS also offers a training orchestra for less experienced string players, and a chamber music program for advanced members. These additional groups allow students of varying abilities to participate in the program. For members interested in pursuing a degree in music, CYS also provides two professional development seminars.

CYS is primarily intended for students in middle and high school, but younger musicians are also welcome to audition.  Membership in CYS is by audition only. Auditions last for approximately 10 minutes and are unaccompanied. All orchestral instruments are invited to audition, including violin, viola, cello, bass, flute, oboe, clarinet, bassoon French horn, trumpet, trombone, tuba, piano, harp, and percussion.  All CYS members are required to participate in at least one school instrumental music program if one is available to them.  Exceptions will be considered on a case-by-case basis, and should be discussed with Lisa Boyer, Director of Education and Community Engagement.  More information such as rehearsal times and audition requirements are available online at: www.cantonsymphony.org/education/youth-symphony.

Questions about repertoire should be directed to Rachael Waddell, CYS Music Director and Conductor at (330) 452-3434 ext.607 or [email protected].
