Bees serve a critical function in the food chain, ecosystems and biodiversity, and that is why, on the heels of the release of their acclaimed new album, aptly titled PollinatorDebbie Harry and Blondie are launching the ‘BEE Connected’ campaign with the mission to raise awareness of the decline in the bee population.  Kicking off during the 10th Annual National Pollinator Week (June 19th – June 25th) the ‘BEE Connected’ campaign will work in collaboration with organizations such as
Pollinator Partnership, Friends of the Earth and Greenpeace – all of whom are dedicated to conserving and improving the health of pollinators through education, consumer empowerment and political activation.
“Basically, my motives for supporting pollinators is survival; survival of us all, survival of the human race,” says Debbie Harry.
In conjunction with this campaign, beginning today fans can purchase special limited edition “Pollinator/Save The Bees” t-shirts – the net proceeds of which will go directly to the pollinator cause. Visit Blondie’s ‘BEE Connected’ home page (PRESS HERE) to purchase a t-shirt, learn more about these incredible organizations and find out all the ways to get involved. Whether by buying local, avoiding pesticide use, planting bee-friendly gardens and the myriad other actions, big or small, you can take part to help save the bees.
Additionally, to help spread the “buzz” on this important cause, Blondie has created a special yellow and black bee-inspired filter for fans to use on social media to show support for the #BEEConnected mission. PRESS HERE to download the filter. An official BEE Connected filter is also available through Facebook frames.
On June 22, two iconic attractions, the Empire State Building and Niagara Falls will light up in yellow and black to honor National Pollinator Week. These displays are made possible by Pollinator Partnership, who founded and has administered National Pollinator Week for the past 10 years.
Stay tuned to Blondie’s Twitter, Instagram and Facebook to ‘BEE Connected’ to more updates and contests throughout the summer, leading up to National Honey Bee Day on August 19th.
