(New York, New York) – Belgian / Puerto Rican singer-songwriter Gabriel Rios is set to release his new album, This Marauder’s Midnight, via Angelhead/Sony Music/RCA Records on May 14th.  All songs were written by Rios and produced, arranged and mixed by bass player Ruben Samama.

The album, which went gold in Belgium, will be available as both a standard 12 track album as well as a 25 track deluxe album.  The deluxe album will feature live versions of every song from the standard album plus a bonus track. The albums are both available for pre-order now.

Fans received their first taste of the lead single “Gold” via a Thomas Jack remix, which was released worldwide late last year.  It has already amassed more than 25 million global streams on Spotify and was certified double platinum in Norway and gold in Denmark and Belgium.  View the video here.

A long and inspiring musical journey around the world formed the inspiration for the album, which Rios recorded in New York City (Chinatown). As he wrote and recorded the songs during the week days you could often find Rios testing out the material at Rockwood Music Hall. The first six tracks he recorded by Samama acting as producer, arranger and mixer in a small, wooden Protestant church in Woodstock, just north of New York. The remaining tracks were partly recorded in beautiful old studios, in Hilversum (The Netherlands) and Mol (Belgium).

Puerto Rico-born Gabriel Rios now resides in Gent in Belgium. At eighteen he left his native country to study at the Academy of the Arts (painting and sculpture) in Belgium. Eventually a third art form stole his heart, music. Contrary to the punk-rock he played in Puerto Rico, the songs made in Belgium rose to great heights when he concocted a sizzling improvisatory melting pot of latin rhythms, hiphop, electro, ragga and rock. Instant success came his way when he recorded his debut Ghostboy in 2004, in collaboration with producer Jo Bogaert (who was behind Technotronic’s worldwide hit single “Pump Up The Jam”). That album produced the single “Broad Daylight” which soared up the European charts. This song opened many doors for him and popped up in a diversity of contexts. Not only did it fit perfectly in a commercial for orange juice, but also it was handpicked by Dutch director Theo van Gogh as the opening track for the movie 0605 about the murder of politician Pim Fortuyn. On the albums that Gabriel released after Ghostboy, he first and foremost developed himself into a sensitive man, with a sharp outlook on the world around him, and with a special devotion to purity, to acoustic instruments and the immense possibilities of his voice, including ventures into its higher regions. After Angelhead (2007) this development has led, via 2010’s The Dangerous Return, an album that he manufactured with virtuoso piano player Jeff Neve and the playful percussionist Kobe Proesmans (even including a whiff of opera).

Rios comments: “The listener’s body has to react to the pulses in the music and connect the dots. I like watching faces change as they grow accustomed to the sounds, especially when it’s a brand new audience. It’s like adapting to a pitch black room just before shapes and subtle tones become visible. An overwhelming attraction to words and melodies led me to this place — a place of dimmed lights and expectation. When all is said and done, I like believing that what moves me is going to move you.”
