AWARD WINNING PRODUCER

DAVID BINDER

TO JOIN

LIFT (LONDON INTERNATIONAL FESTIVAL OF THEATRE)

AS ARTISTIC ASSOCIATE

(London, October 22, 2014) LIFT (London International Festival Of Theatre) is delighted to announce award-winning producer David Binder will join its team as Artistic Associate. David will work with LIFT to develop international projects and collaborations to be part of future festivals.

David Binder collaborated with LIFT this past summer to produce Deblozay by the French company Rara Woulib. Deblozay took audiences on a wild, immersive procession inspired by Haitian funeral marches through the backstreets of Greenwich and Deptford in London.

David Binder is a Tony Award winning producer who has produced festivals, shows on Broadway, Off-Broadway and internationally. In Spring 2014, David produced two record breaking shows on Broadway: Hedwig and the Angry Inch (Tony Award, Best Musical Revival) and Of Mice and Men starring James Franco and Chris O’Dowd. The National Theatre of Great Britain chose Of Mice and Men as the first Broadway show to be filmed and distributed internationally by NT Live. Binder’s festival work includes The High Line Festival, curated by David Bowie, and the Dutch New Island Festival on New York’s Governors Island. He produced De La Guarda (LIFT 97) around the world. His TED talk “The Arts Festival Revolution” has been seen by more than a half million people online and was chosen by The Guardian as one of the best talks on theatre on the web.  davidbinderproductions.com

“We’re thrilled that David will be joining the LIFT team as Artistic Associate. David has a fantastic instinct for identifying ground-breaking international artists and an exceptional track record in producing extraordinary new projects and he’ll be an invaluable artistic colleague for us in the States. David is one of Broadway’s most exciting producers and his involvement in developing new projects with LIFT is indicative of our ambitions for the organisation and for international theatre in London.” Mark Ball, Artistic Director of LIFT

“For over 30 years, LIFT has been defining and redefining international arts festivals. LIFT continually introduces new artists and forms to London, and shows the world how a festival can be a catalyst for broader social transformations. I’m thrilled to be joining the LIFT team.” David Binder, Producer
