(Sarasota, Florida) Artist Series Concerts of Sarasota’s 20th anniversary Pops Series continues with “QuinTango,” a chamber tango quintet engaging audiences with its sizzling, mind-opening fusion of traditional South American tango repertoire and classical chamber music style, April 30 and May 1, 7:30 p.m., at the Historic Asolo Theater, 5401 Bay Shore Road, Sarasota. Ticket prices range from $25 to $45 and are available at 941-360-7399 or www.artistseriesconcerts.org. Student tickets available at the door.

QuinTango artists include Joan Singer, violin and founder of QuinTango; Eva Cappelletti Chao, violinist; Jon Nazdin, bass; Lukasz Szyrner, cello; and Jeffery Watson, piano. The group has brought thousands of new fans to the music of tango by engaging audiences with its sizzling, mind-opening fusion of traditional South American tango repertoire and classical chamber music style. In keeping with its mission to bring tango to new audiences, QuinTango concerts blend musicianship, audience connection, and great storytelling. Patrons leave a QuinTango performance with not only a new-found love of tango, but with an understanding of the heart and history of this art form.

All of QuinTango’s repertoire is originally created for the group, with most of the musical arrangements crafted by top-ranking tango composers in Argentina.  Concerts usually include 14 to 18 tangos, many with short narratives introductions. Audiences meet Astor Piazzolla, Carlos Gardel, gauchos, poets and broken-hearted lovers as the tangos unfold in a kaleidoscope of emotions and historical settings.

Since 1996, Artist Series Concerts of Sarasota has presented an ever-expanding annual season of concerts by globally renowned and celebrated emerging artists.

Artist Series Concerts of Sarasota

Artist Series Concerts of Sarasota was formed in 1996 as the Artist Series of Sarasota. The group is a non-profit corporation based in Sarasota, FL, that prides itself on presenting several major national and international varieties of concert, opera, orchestral, Broadway and film performances throughout their season. The majority of the performances are staged at the restored Historic Asolo Theater at The Ringling.
