This popular event features artists and artisans creating works of art as you watch, entertainment by Broadway performer Larry Alexander, and French-inspired hors d’oeuvres and wine. Proceeds from the event will be used to benefit the Art Center’s innovative “Confluence” exhibition series.

(Sarasota, FL) Enjoy an “Evening in Paris” as Art Center Sarasota brings back the popular event, “Artists at Work,” Friday, October 24, 2014, 6:30-9:30 p.m., at Art Center Sarasota, 707 N. Tamiami Trail, Sarasota. This year’s theme is “An Evening in Paris.” Guests will stroll the galleries in a setting reminiscent of the famous Montmartre art district in Paris, sip wine, enjoy passed hors d’oeuvres, and observe 10 teams of local artists creating original works of art throughout the evening. Guests will also be given an opportunity to enter a drawing to take home their very own masterpiece. The event also features entertainment by Broadway performer Larry Alexander, with piano tunes by local financial advisor and concert pianist Stephen Fancher. Tickets are $60 for ACS members; $75 for non-members. For more information and to reserve tickets, call 941-365-2032 or visit www.artsarasota.org/aaw.

Lisa Berger, Art Center Sarasota’s director, explains that proceeds from the event will be used to raise funds to benefit the center’s innovative exhibition series, “Confluence.” She explains that the Confluence series is an, “eight-year, international exhibition program inspired by the Sister Cities Association of Sarasota. These exhibits feature works by emerging and mid-career artists from countries connected to Sarasota through Sister Cities.” Last year, the center produced an exhibit of works by cutting-edge Israeli artists. This May, Art Center Sarasota will continue its global outreach with “Confluence: France,” featuring work by artists from the Catalan region of France.

The featured “Artists at Work” include Joseph Melancon, Julie Hansen, Jill Krasner, Raven Skye McDonough, Zach Gilliland, Javo, Gail Rubinfeld, Louise Hamel, Larry Forgard, Anita Wexler, Judy Just, Marilyn Feinberg, Bix Mannion, Pepi Elona, Carla O’Brien, Karin Billings, and Joanna Coke.

Berger adds that the event will also include artisans working at their craft and teaching guests how to create jewelry, prints and more to take home. Artisans include Ray Peper, Susan Bernstein and Leslie Gnaegy.

About Art Center Sarasota

Art Center Sarasota was the first arts and cultural institution in Sarasota. It was founded in 1926 as the “Sarasota Art Association” by Marcia Rader, the art supervisor for the Sarasota County schools district. In the early years, the group met monthly and sponsored exhibits in rented facilities. The Association was incorporated as a not-for-profit organization in 1943 and has been in its current location in the Sarasota Bayfront Cultural District since 1949. Art Center Sarasota is now a membership-based organization that offers curated and juried exhibitions, adult and youth education programs, outreach initiatives for underserved youth, and culturally related public programming. Art Center Sarasota’s mission is to provide Sarasota with opportunities for creative expression and art appreciation through art education, exhibitions and cultural programs.
