ANGELICA GARCIA TO JOIN LYDIA LOVELESS ON NATIONWIDE TOUR KICKING OFF JANUARY 19
ACCLAIMED SINGER-SONGWRITER’S DEBUT ALBUM
MEDICINE FOR BIRDS EARNS PRAISE FROM THE NEW YORK TIMES, NPR, AMERICAN SONGWRITER, PASTE AND MORE
Garcia’s songs take unexpected swoops. Sometimes it’s the music, which is steeped in country-rock and blues, with flickers of indie-rock desolation; sometimes it’s her voice, which is sure and conspiratorial, bendy and grounded. Most often, though, it’s her words, which come together in surprising patterns, a blend of old-timey formalism and magical storytelling.

January 10, 2017 (Burbank, CA) – Emerging singer-songwriter Angelica Garcia will join Lydia Loveless as direct support on a nationwide tour kicking off January 19 in Nashville. The 17-date tour will make stops in New Orleans, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Portland, Seattle, Denver and more, before wrapping up in Lawrence, KS on February 13. See below for a full list of dates.
Garcia has received overwhelming buzz since the release of her debut album Medicine for Birds last fall, earning critical acclaim from The New York TimesNPRPasteAmerican Songwriter and more. Most recently, her song “Orange Flower” was featured in NPR‘s Top 100 Songs of 2016, who proclaimed it “a raucous blues rock track with perfectly sarcastic lyrics you won’t be able to get out of your head,” and Paste Magazine branded her “Best of What’s Next,” praising her “unique hybrid of West Coast bohemia and rural Americana.”

The 22-year old Richmond-based songstress was born in Los Angeles, but moved to Accomac, VA as a teen when her stepfather traded a career in the music industry for the Episcopalian priesthood. Garcia’s family lived in a 200-year-old gothic brick home encircled by magnolia trees. Isolated and alone, Garcia locked herself in the parish house and fashioned a musical world that veers between ghostly gorgeous countrified blues and sly swamp Americana. With a childlike whimsy, quirky sense of humor, and dynamic delivery, it could easily soundtrack an apparitions’ ball in some Faulknerian mansion.
Medicine for Birds was recorded by Charlie Peacock (The Civil Wars, Switchfoot) in Nashville. “It’s like the songs grew up at that moment,” Garcia says. “Charlie showed me how big and crazy they could be. I felt like a hermit coming out. He was the ambassador to this sonic realm I didn’t know about it. The music became limitless.”
