CRYSTAL CASTLES
NEW ALBUM ‘AMNESTY (I)’ OUT TODAY, FRIDAY, AUGUST 19
ON CASABLANCA RECORDS

BAND TO DONATE THEIR SHARE OF PROCEEDS FROM ALBUM SALES TO
AMNESTY INTERNATIONAL

U.S. TOUR KICKS OFF SEPTEMBER 6
“Recorded in London’s famed Konk Studios, founded by the Kinks, Amnesty (I) continues the political trajectory of previous album III, with a procession of grim industrial ballads, interspersed with sinister glimmers of Frances’ soprano.”
– Suzy Expozito, Rolling Stone (8/18/19)
Across its 12 tracks, AMNESTY (I)-the new album from CRYSTAL CASTLES out today, August 19 on Casablanca Records–explores the sonic and atmospheric range. From gothic electronic paeans to distorted digital raves, from cinematic synth and noise crescendos to hip-hop and trap infused synth pop, it is uniformly compelling, uncompromising and anchored in feeling.
Over the course of the last few months CRYSTAL CASTLES-who is Ethan Kath and Edith Frances-revealed a string of tracks that have captured the attention of music critics and fans alike.  Melissa Locker of ELLE (7/26/16) has praised “Char,” an electronic lullaby:  “If there was such a thing as a dance club haunted by ghosts, this is what it would sound like: Frances’ ethereal voice floating over a delicate synth structure and an ominous undertone. It’s wonderful.” Brennan Carley of SPIN (6/29/16) hailed “Concrete” as “… a loud, frenzied piece of music.”

Known for their chaotic live shows and visceral, melancholic homemade productions, CRYSTAL CASTLES released a trilogy of critically acclaimed albums between 2008-2013. Their last album III was the Tumblr and Hype Machine album of the year for 2013, and NME’s #4 album of the year. In 2015 they released the standalone tracks “Frail” and “Deicide,” with new member Edith Frances.
In support of the album, CRYSTAL CASTLES are preparing to embark on a fall run of U.S. live dates, kicking off on September 6 in Carborro, NC.  The trek will take them through 21 cities including Dallas, San Francisco, New York, Los Angeles and Boston, wrapping in mid-October.   They’ve played only a small handful of shows in the past two years, so the new dates present an opportunity to experience the new songs from AMNESTY (I).  Find the routing below.

Notably, CRYSTAL CASTLES have committed to donate their share of profit from album sales to Amnesty International.  Says the group’s Edith Frances: “A lot of fucked up stuff is going on in 2016. It’s been a year of glaring violations of human rights. As much as the world can seem scary, seeing how so many people are reacting is inspiring. It’s vital for us to actually support the people taking direct action to make a difference.

She elaborates: “The band’s share of proceeds from our new album Amnesty (I) will be donated to Amnesty International. Physical copies (vinyl/cd) have a bonus track. We want our voices to call attention to issues that need to be illuminated. Amnesty International stand up for human rights by fighting injustice hands-on, and gives a voice to those who may feel voiceless. They fight for LGBTQ rights, women’s rights, prisoner rights, and children’s rights. They fight against discrimination, arbitrary detention and unfair trials, and civilian injustice. They are the people on the ground working to change these issues and they need our help. Not just our words, but also our resources. The world is at a critical tipping point. Human rights have no borders, no language, no religion and no race. This applies to you and affects you. I challenge more musicians to do the same with their albums. Donate your proceeds to a charity of your choice. No longer can we sit back and watch and talk; what we really need right now is action.”

About CRYSTAL CASTLES:
Crystal Castles are an experimental electronic band from Toronto, Ontario, the project of songwriter/producer Ethan Kath. Crystal Castles are known for exhilarating live shows and lo-fi melancholic homemade productions. They released many limited vinyl singles in 2006 and 2007 before releasing a trilogy of critically acclaimed albums between 2008 and 2012.  Debut album, Crystal Castles, was released in 2008 and was listed on NME’s “Top 100 Greatest Albums of the Decade” list at No. 39. In 2010 second album, titled (II), charted on the Billboard 200, and included their first worldwide charting single “Not In Love” featuring vocalist Robert Smith of The Cure. The album has received general acclaim and was placed on many 2010 top critics lists. Third album (III) was released on November 12, 2012 and was the number 1 album of 2012 on Tumblr and on The Hype Machine. The album included four singles: “Plague,” “Wrath of God,” “Sad Eyes” and “Affection.” Crystal Castles’ fourth album will follow in spring 2016 through Casablanca Records. “Frail” and “Deicide” (both Hype Machine # 1’s) have trailed the new album, the first Crystal Castles songs to feature vocalist Edith – and the most successful songs online in the band’s 10 year career to date.
