A New Season of the Curtis Institute of Music’s Award-Winning Student Recital Series Begins Tonight

Free performances most Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays at Curtis now through May

PHILADELPHIA, PA—October 17, 2014—A new season of the Student Recital Series begins tonight at the Curtis Institute of Music, continuing its celebrated legacy as the leading concert stage for some of the world’s finest young musicians. With over 100 free recitals every year that allow the public to enjoy exceptional concerts in the intimacy of Field Concert Hall, the series was named Philadelphia magazine’s Best of Philly® 2014 Best Free Show.

Now through May, students perform solo and chamber works in Field Concert Hall (1726 Locust Street) and occasionally in Gould Rehearsal Hall at Lenfest Hall (1616 Locust Street) most Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays at 8 p.m., as well as many weekends. Additional recitals and times are added in the winter and spring. Admission is free and no tickets are required.

A highlight of the Student Recital Series is renowned guest artists and faculty coaching and often performing alongside students. The 2014–15 season features percussion ensemble NEXUS, cellist Gary Hoffman, and students coached by pianist Jonathan Biss (’01) and violinist Miriam Fried. The series also includes innovative collaborations between the brass and percussion departments and the Philadelphia Youth Orchestra’s Bravo Brass Ensemble and graduation recitals by students about to launch their professional careers. In addition Curtis welcomes the Aizuri Quartet, string quartet in residence for the 2014–15 school year, and the BOK Trio, Curtis’s new ArtistYear fellows, for performances throughout the season.
