Art of the Guitar: 92Y Welcomes Sharon Isbin and
Special Guest, Colin Davin

Now in its seventeenth season, 92nd Street Y’s acclaimed Art of the Guitar series has become one of the most revered, “consistently satisfying series” (The New Yorker) in New York to champion classical guitar repertoire and the instrument’s foremost artists. The upcoming season features four diverse concerts with world-renowned musicians and a fascinating variety of repertoire. Opening the series is “The pre-eminent guitarist of our time” (Boston Magazine) Sharon Isbin on December 2. Presenting a diverse program inspired by the lively guitar music in Spain, Latin America, and tango culture, Ms. Isbin invites former student and emerging young star Colin Davin to make his 92Y debut, playing duets with his mentor.

Dawn Upshaw Makes Rare 92Y Appearance, Joins
Brentano String Quartet

Founded in 1992, the Brentano Quartet recently celebrated its 25th anniversary season. Praised by the Independent (London) as “Passionate, uninhibited and spellbinding,” and The New York Times for its “luxuriously warm sound [and] yearning lyricism,” the Brentano String Quartet succeeded the Tokyo as quartet-in-residence at Yale School of Music in 2014. For their 92Y appearance this season, the Quartet is joined by internationally renowned soprano and the five-time Grammy Award winner Dawn Upshaw for a unique program that plays with the relationships between consonance and dissonance, musically and dramatically.  Below is a video of the Brentano Quartet at their most recent 92Y performance.

Jeremy Denk Returns to 92Y

The extent of Jeremy Denk’s accomplishments as a pianist and singularly thoughtful artist cannot be understated; Denk was a recipient of a MacArthur “Genius” Grant and the Avery Fisher Prize, he was elected to the American Academy of Arts and Sciences and named Musical America’s Instrumentalist of the year in 2014.  A longtime friend and colleague of 92Y and frequent guest of their concert series, Denk returns to 92Y as a soloist with a deeply gratifying program of some of the vital, and virtuosic, repertoire for solo piano.
