Festival Latino, the two-day, family-friendly, free celebration of family, community, and Latin American culture, will be held Saturday and Sunday, August 9 and 10, from 11 am-8 pm each day. Due to City construction in Genoa Park, the 2014 Festival Latino will shift across the river to Bicentennial Park.

Mexican singer/songwriter Noel Vargas began singing on the streets of Mexico at age 11, telling the story of his life through music. He currently lives in Columbus, and will be releasing his new single, “Quiero Que Te Vayas,” at the end of summer.
2:00pm – Herman Olivera
Olivera is considered by many as one of few remaining soneros (improvising lead singer) of salsa. He has toured and continues to tour all over the world, appearing as a featured vocalist in many prestigious festivals and TV shows, including stints with The Carnegie Hall Jazz Band and The Lincoln Center Afro-Latin Jazz Band. His diction, vocalization, soul, and feeling combined with his charisma and the palatable timbre of his voice projects the well-seasoned mixture of Afro-Caribbean rhythms.
3:15pm – Frankie Negrón
Puerto Rican salsa superstar Frankie Negrón’s distinct blend of traditional salsa with progressive influences such as pop, rock, gospel, R&B, hip-hop, and reggaetón has garnered him several Grammy
nominations, Billboard Award nods, and two Premio Lo Nuestro Awards for “Song of the Year.” He’s also had several number one singles, four gold and platinum albums, and nine Billboard Top 40 Hot Latin Tracks.
4:45pm – Brazeros Musical de Durango
The six youths of Brazeros Musical de Durango began their musical careers when their ages ranged from 14 to 21. Only a few short months later, the group released its debut CD, El Errante, selling more than 15,000 copies in less than one month. Their follow-up record, Buscando Amores, opened doors to performing stateside in duranguense’s capitol city, Chicago. A warm reception there led to regular airplay and an ever-growing fan base. The duranguense audience found their youthful looks and endless energy irresistible. With a noticeable presence on the charts since 2004 and a contract with the powerful Disa label, Brazeros Musical de Durango established a strong position for themselves even before all their members could legally drive.

Master of the bachata style, Dominican-born Joe Veras earned a new level of exposure with the release of Carta de Verano (2003), boasting hits like “Intentalo Tu” which hit the Top Ten in Billboard’s Latin Tropical Airplay chart. His extensive history of touring has taken him all over the Americas and Europe, reaching audiences worldwide. La Travesia (2006) brought him back to the top of the tropical music world with Top Ten hit “En el Amor.”

Catch a showcase and celebration of modern Latino style as local adults and children model a progression of fashion from traditional Latin clothing through the modern designs of today.

Local musician Victor Zancudo and his band will perform a special acoustic set of his original music which fuses Latin pop with traditional and modern rhythms.
2:30pm – Vena
Superstar producer Lenny Santos and his brother Max Santos, the musical forces behind the genre-breaking sound of Aventura, have united with Steve Styles, former front man of Groupo Xtreme, to form the bachata supergroup Vena, revolutionizing Tropical music with a unique fusion of classic and modern urban bachata.
4:30pm – José Alberto “El Canario”
Dominican salsa vocalist José Alberto, also known as “El Canario,” is noted for his exceptional voice, unique style, and superior
improvisational skills. He became a major Latin star after his debut release Noches Calientes (1984), and established a new style called salsa romántica with Dance with Me (1991). His exceptional whistling abilities led fans to nickname him El Canario (The Canary).

6:30pm – Los Hermanos Rosario
The 14-piece merengue orchestra Los Hermanos Rosario was formed by Dominican siblings Rafa, Luis, and Tony Rosario in 1978. Over the years, the group has released several hit albums including Bomba Mi Hermano, Insuperables, Los Dueños del Swing, and Bomba 2000.

Special Festival Host – B. A-Star
Richard Bastar Jr., known as B. A-Star, is a former member of the group Tercera Generation (or 3G) with his brothers, boasting the fact that they are the third generation of Bastar in the music industry. Now pursuing a solo project, B. A-Star has created a new urban dance sound, releasing more than ten singles since 2011.
DJ Cale
DJ Cale caters to Caribbean and Latin American tastes, spinning salsa, merengue, bachata, reggaeton, Latin pop, Latin dance, house, and a touch of American Top 40 music. He will be providing music from the main stage throughout the Festival.

Balloon Twisters – Balloon artists from Creative Distinctions will create fun balloon designs for children from 2-4pm daily.
Columbus Metro Parks – Children can see and learn about a local animal and get their hand stamped with animal tracks.
COSI’s Science Spot – This traveling exhibition gives families the opportunity to play, explore, and learn about science together with hands-on kiosks featuring activities to help children learn about basic science concepts, including force and motion, structures, magnetism, gadgets, and more.
Mexican Flowers – Big, beautiful flowers are used in Mexico to decorate on days of celebration. Join the members of Organización de Damas Latinas as they help children construct these colorful creations.
Scioto Mile Fountain – The spectacular 15,000 square-foot fountain has more than 1,000 jets of water and interactive features for children of all ages.

Creation Station – Sponsored by State Auto Insurance, the Creation Station is designed to engage the entire family with hands-on activities to encourage families, friends, teams, troops, and the like to work together creatively to rediscover fun without the use of modern day technology. State Auto and the Columbus Museum of Art will introduce a multi-generational arts-and-crafts project—creativity with a “twist!” Attendees will work together to use twist ties to design and build creations limited only by your imagination.
Mascots – Costumed mascots from a variety of Columbus sports teams and companies will make appearances throughout the two-day event including Columbia Gas’ Cozy Cat, McDonald’s Ronald McDonald, Bob Evans’ Biscuit and Gravy, and the Columbus Clippers’ Lou Seal.
Artists’ Showcase
Ohio-based Latin artists will display and sell their visual artwork in the Artists’ Showcase area. Featured artists will be:
Abraham Cordova – Winner of the 2002 Scholastic Art and Writing American Visions Award and a 2006 graduate of the Columbus College of Art and Design, Cordova specializes in portraits done with watercolors, charcoal, and colored pencils. He is a self-employed tattoo artist, and a full-time fine artist.
Diana Maria Fusco – Colombian designer Diana Maria Fusco creates a variety of women’s accessories and home décor, drawing from more than 15 years of training and guidance in her native country and then expanding into different cultures. There is very little duplication of her pieces, and she enjoys designing with a variety of natural materials and recyclables.
Wladimir Muñoz – Eagerly wanting to satisfy his love to travel and paint, Muñoz traveled to Costa Rica to study at the Instituto Superior de Estudios Vedicos. His work has been exhibited in a variety of galleries and arts festivals. He is currently an art teacher and paints portraits, including those of public figures.
Will Sanchez – Aggressive in his approach, world renowned, and considered one of the most talented artists of our time, Sanchez has been drawing since childhood and painting since the turn of the millennium. In 2002, Sanchez became the co-founder of La Cosecha Galleria (The Harvest Gallery), the first Latino owned and managed art gallery in the greater Cleveland metropolitan area.
WRITERS’ SHOWCASE
New in 2014! Ohio-based Latino writers will display and sell their work in the Writers’ Showcase area. Featured artists will be:
Alejandra Campos – With Chinese, Panamanian, and Salvadorian heritage, Alejandra
Campos’ polemic views on the subject of migration are a direct result of her personal experiences. Her debut memoir, I, Legal in the U.S.A., is currently a winner of the International Latino Book Awards for “Best Educational Young Adult Book” and “Best Use of Photos Inside a Book.”
Ani Palacios – Editor-in-chief of Contacto Latino and Pukiyari Editores, Palacios has won several International Latino Book Awardsf or best novel, including 2010 with Nos vemos en Purgatorio, 2011 with Plumbago Torres y el sueño americano, and 2014 with the inspirational novel, 99 Amaneceres. She leads Sociedad de Escritores de Columbus (Writers Society of Columbus), and has done presentations at professional conferences and book fairs. Palacios will launch her latest novel, Noche de penas, at the Festival.
Writers Society of Columbus – Constituted of a group of Columbus-based fiction writers that write in Spanish, the Writers Society of Columbus meets at least monthly to write and perform activities related to the promotion of Spanish-language literature. De una a siete Anthology 2013, their 2013 anthology and the first of its kind in Columbus, is a collection of stories written during the group’s workshops by Patricia Gabela, Amilcar Araujo, Angeles Casasola, Marisol Rodriguez, Felix Quevedo, Enrique Infante, and Felix Amicantonio. Other area writers, including Tony Mendoza and Guillermo Arango, will join as well.

4:45pm – Brazeros Musical de Durango
Los seis jóvenes de Brazeros Musical de Durango, empezaron su carrera musical, cuando apenas tenían entre 14 y 21 años. Pocos meses después, el grupo lanzó su álbum debut, El Errante, vendiendo 15,000 copias en menos de un mes. A esto le siguió Buscando Amores, que les abrió las puertas en la capital de la música duranguense en los Estados Unidos: Chicago. Poco a poco fueron ganando popularidad en la radio, y así, generaron un mayor número de fans, quienes poco a poco fueron cediendo a la energía que emanaba la agrupación. Con una constante presencia en las listas musicales desde el 2004, y un contrato con la poderosa disquera Disa, Brazeros Musical de Durango logró establecerse en el mercado, incluso cuando ninguno de sus integrantes había alcanzado la mayoría de edad.

Este gran maestro dominicano de la bachata; se dio a conocer con el lanzamiento de Carta de Verano (2003). Sus prolongadas giras en América y Europa, lograron alcanzar a numerosas audiencias. La Travesía (2006), nuevamente le trajo la satisfacción de alcanzar el Top Ten con la canción “En el Amor.”

No se pierda la exhibición de los distintos estilos de arte latino moderno, durante el desfile de adultos y niños residentes en la ciudad. Ellos nos mostrarán una gran variedad de prendas, desde la tradicional, hasta los modernos diseños latinos de hoy.
1:00 pm – Zancudo
El músico local Víctor Zancudo, acompañado de su banda, tocarán un set netamente acústico, en el cual interpretarán música original. Dichas canciones mezclan el pop latino, con ritmos tanto contemporáneos como tradicionales.
2:30pm – Vena
Los hermanos y productores, Lenny y Max Santos, han sido los artífices del exitoso grupo musical Aventura. Ambas estrellas, se unieron a Steve Styles, ex-líder del grupo Xtreme, y juntos formaron el supergrupo de bachata Vena, revolucionando la música tropical con una fusión única, entre la bachata clásica y la moderna, con sonido urbano.
4:30pm – José Alberto “El Canario”
José Alberto “El Canario” -el dominicano de la salsa- es ampliamente conocido por su excepcional voz e inconfundible estilo y destreza al momento de improvisar. Manualidades con globos – Los artistas en torsión de globos del Creative Distinctions, confeccionarán distintas figuras para los niños desde las 2 hasta las 4pm ambos días.
Columbus Metro Parks – Los niños podrán apreciar y aprender acerca de algunos animales de la ciudad. Del mismo modo tendrán la opción de grabar sus manos con las huellas de los mismos.
La esquina científica del COSI – Este viaje de demostraciones científicas, brinda la oportunidad a toda la familia, de jugar, explorar y aprender de forma directa, todo lo relacionado con el aprendizaje básico de lo que es la ciencia y sus conceptos. Estas actividades incluyen la enseñanza de lo que son, la fuerza y movimiento, la estructura, el magnetismo, los dispositivos, y mucho más.
Flores mexicanas – En los días de celebraciones en México, la gente usa bellas y grandes flores para decorar dichas festividades. Visite la Organización de Damas Latinas, en la confección de estas coloridas creaciones.
La fuente del Scioto Mile– Esta espectacular fuente de 15,000 pies cuadrados (4,572 m2) contiene más de 1,000 conductos de agua con juegos, para niños de todas las edades.
Otras actividades en el área de niños, incluirá:
El paradero de la creatividad – Auspiciado por State Auto Insurance, el Paradero de la creatividad (Creation Station), es un lugar de actividades manuales, diseñado para el disfrute de familias enteras, amistades, grupos, tropas, equipos, etc, quienes gusten del trabajo en equipo y sobretodo de lo que significa la diversión, sin el uso de la tecnología. State Auto y el Columbus Museum of Art (Museo de Arte de Columbus) presentarán proyectos de arte multi-generacionales, con un giro (“twist!”). Los participantes tendrán que usar su
imaginación, para construir lo que deseen, con los conocidos sujetadores de alambre (twist ties).
Mascotas – Las conocidas mascotas de los equipos deportivos y de otras compañías de Columbus, estarán presentes en el festival. Usted podrá reconocerlos, por los curiosos disfraces que usan. Entre ellas, veremos al “Cozy Cat” de Columbia Gas, a “Ronald McDonald” de

MUESTRA de ARTes VISUALes
Numerosos artistas latinos de Ohio, exhibirán sus obras; las cuales estarán en venta en el área de exhibiciones de arte. Entre estos artistas, se encuentran:
Abraham Córdova – Ganador en el 2002, del premio Scholastic Art and Writing American Visions y egresado en el año 2006, del Columbus College of Art and Design. Córdova se especializa en retratos realizados con acuarelas, a carboncillo y con lápices de colores. Trabaja por su cuenta haciendo tatuajes y es además, un artista plástico a tiempo completo.
Diana María Fusco – La diseñadora colombiana Diana María Fusco, es creadora de una gran variedad de accesorios para la mujer y para la decoración del hogar, fundados en sus más de 15 años de formación y orientación en su país natal, y en otras culturas. En sus piezas casi no existe la duplicación y disfruta mucho del diseño con materiales naturales y reciclables.
Wladimir Muñoz – Desde niño quiso satisfacer su gusto por los viajes y su amor por la pintura. Muñoz estudió en el Instituto Superior de Estudios Védicos de Costa Rica. Su trabajo artístico ha sido exhibido por muchas de galerías y festivales. Actualmente es profesor de arte y se dedica a hacer retratos de figuras públicas.
Will Sánchez – Agresivo en su enfoque, Sánchez es un artista de renombre mundial considerado uno de los más talentosos de nuestro tiempo. Empezó a dibujar desde la infancia, y desde que comenzó el nuevo milenio; hizo lo propio con la pintura, en el 2002. Sánchez se convirtió en el co-fundador de La Cosecha Galleria (La Galería de cosecha), la primera galería, propiedad de un latino, en el área metropolitana de Cleveland.
LA VITRINA DE LOS ESCRITORES
¡Nuevo en el 2014! Numerosos escritores con sede en Ohio, exhibirrán y tendrán a la venta sus trabajos literarios, en el área llamada “La vitrina de los escritores.”
Entre ellos se encuentran:
Alejandra Campos – Con un legado chino, panameño y salvadoreño, Alejandra Campos tiene
puntos de vista polémicos, sobre temas de migración, siendo resultado directo de sus experiencias personales. Su libro debut de memorias: I, Legal in the U.S.A., es el actual ganador del Internacional Latino Book Awards como “Best Educational Young Adult Book” (Mejor libro educativo para adolescentes) y ganador del “Best Use of Photos Inside a Book” (Mejor uso de fotos en un libro).
Ani Palacios – Editora y líder de Contacto Latino y de Pukiyari Editores, Palacios tiene en su haber numerosos Internacional Latino Book Awards por sus novelas “Nos vemos en el Purgatorio” (2010),
“PlumbagoTorres y el sueño americano” (2011), y la novela de inspiración, “99 Amaneceres” (2014). Palacios dirige actualmente la Sociedad de Escritores de Columbus y ha participado en conferencias profesionales y ferias del libro. La mencionada escritora utilizará las fechas del festival, para lanzar su más reciente novela “Noche de Penas.”
Sociedad de Escritores de Columbus – Constituido por un grupo de escritores de ficción en español, la Sociedad de Escritores de Columbus se reúne al menos una vez al mes para escribir y realizar actividades relacionadas con la promoción de la literatura española. La Antología titulada “De una a siete” (2013) es la primera
publicación en su género en la ciudad de Columbus. “De una a siete,” es una colección de cuentos escritos durante los talleres de grupo. Sus autores son Patricia Gabela, Amilcar Araujo, Ángeles Casasola, Marisol Rodríguez, Félix Quevedo, Enrique Infante y FélixAmicantonio. Próximamente los escritores Tony Mendoza y Guillermo Arango, también serán parte de esta sociedad.

El dar de comer a los gansos incluyendo a la fauna salvaje. El uso ilegal de drogas.
Las armas ilegales.
El alcohol (a menos que lo haya adquirido en el evento).
Los envases de vidrio.
Las mascotas y animales sin correa o en la fuente de agua. Los patines o patinetas (skateboards).
Las sombrillas de estructura grande o paraguas de patio con sillas. Las estacas de cualquier tipo.

El evento se llevará a cabo ante cualquier circunstancia de lluvia. El Festival Latino no tiene un lugar destinado para protegerse de ella.
Estacionamiento
Las playas de estacionamiento tienen un costo y son de uso público, incluyendo a personas con incapacidad. Estas son, la del COSI (333 W. Broad St.) y la del Columbus Commons Parking Garage (55 E. Rich St.).También se podrá utilizar otras áreas de estacionamiento cercano.
Estacionamiento de bicicletas
Los andamios para sujetar bicicletas se encuentran localizados en todos los alrededores del festival.
