Summer’s almost over and it’s time to go back to school. Opening this Thursday night, Adam Fitzgerald directs a sly, time-bending comedy by Caroline Prugh about how we remember defining moments in our lives, and the joys and tortures of 6th grade recess.
Fiona Moore is growing up before Rosie, Ellen and Wanda… On a playground in 1988, young Fiona fights off Margo Finley’s efforts to convince her to join the all-girls kickball team in their daily recess battles against the boys. As Fiona struggles to figure out her complicated feelings for Margo, the play opens up, moving between the late ’80s and today. As the playground fades into memory, adult Fiona and her friends attempt to figure out just what was happening and maybe re-write a little of her-story. It’s Only Kickball, Stupid is the universal story of finding oneself in a world that does not offer an explanation.
The cast features Autumn Hurlbert (Legally Blonde on Broadway), Eric T. Miller (Sweet Storm at LAByrinth), Lori Prince (Sarah, Sarah at MTC) and Debargo Sanyal (Queens Boulevard at Signature Theatre Company).
