City Cinema is Back!
Free Funny Films to Keep Toronto Laughing
June 28 – August 30, 2016

YONGE-DUNDAS SQUARE (YDS) is the best place to catch a funny flick this summer with City Cinema’s classic comedies screening in The Heart of the City!

Every Tuesday from June 28 – August 30 at sunset (check individual listings for start time), Torontonians are invited to grab a chair at YDS and join other fans for an evening of timeless comedies, featuring performances from Canada’s greatest comedic actors including John Candy, Catherine O’Hara, Rick Moranis, Mike Myers and Eugene Levy.

On Tuesday, June 28, Bridesmaids (2011), starring Kristen Wiig, Melissa McCarthy, Maya Rudolph and Rose Byrne will kick off City Cinema at YDS as a maid of honour and bridesmaid battle for the title of ‘best friend to the bride.’

On Tuesday, July 5, Coming to America (1988) is coming to YDS. The film that proved “the four funniest men in America are Eddie Murphy,” also stars Arsenio Hall and James Earl Jones in the tale of an African prince who travels to Queens, NY, to find the love of his life.

On Tuesday, July 12, the comedy dream team of Christopher Guest, Catherine O’Hara, Eugene Levy, Fred Willard, Jennifer Coolidge, Jane Lynch, Michael McKean and Parker Posey, among many many more take over YDS in a double-bill featuring For Your Consideration (2006) and Best in Show (2000).

On Tuesday, July 19, catch “another film completely different from some of the other films which aren’t quite the same as this one is” with Monty Python and the Holy Grail (1975) starring . . . well, Monty Python. Immediately following will be The Jerk (1979) starring Steve Martin, Bernadette Peters and Carl Reiner in this rags-to-riches-to-rags story about an idiotic man struggling to make it through life.

On Tuesday, July 26, it’s all Mel Brooks all the time with a double-bill feature of the Star Wars-spoof, Spaceballs (1987) starring Rick Moranis, John Candy and Bill Pullman followed by the satirical western, Blazing Saddles (1974) starring Gene Wilder and Cleavon Little.

Each feature screening will be preceded by a short film programmed by the National Film Board of Canada (NFB).

City Cinema will continue through August 30 with Stripes (Aug 2), Wayne’s World and The Ladies Man (Aug 9), There’s Something About Mary (Aug 16), Tommy Boy (Aug 23), Airplane! and Dracula: Dead and Loving It (Aug 30), plus more NFB shorts!
