Wray Teams with Noisey to Give You “Relative”

S/T Debut Out July 15
(Communicating Vessels)

US Summer/Fall Tour with Man or Astro-man?

“It’s a unique mélange of genres, melding beach rock breeziness with the type of driving, slowly evolving aesthetic that marked bands like My Bloody Valentine.” –Noisey

“WRAY are woozier and more majestic, with gently-gliding vocal melodies and a steadily-chugging rhythm that owes more to krautrock than it does punk or garage.” – Wondering Sound

“Guitar saturated, hazy noise pop (at one point I was reminded of the Yo La Tengo track “Sugarcube”) I think they’ll quickly gain a spot among Birmingham’s respected indie bands.” – You Hear This

What do you expect from a band that boasts its inspiration from, “Dreamlike frequencies, sonic colors, ritualism, stagnation, repetition, movement and cohesiveness.” Tracks like “Relative,” which Noisey describes as, “dream pop into shoegaze and noise rock, separating tides of aggressive cymbal clashing from calming, lo-fi vocals,” fill their self-titled debut, out July 15 on Communicating Vessels. It was recorded in their hometown of Birmingham, Alabama at Ol Elgante Studio. With mastermind engineer Daniel Farris (Man Or Astro-man?, St. Vincent, Polyphonic Spree, Verbena) at the helm, they managed to capture the atmospheric beauty that comes with every live show they play.

Wray is David Brown, Blake Wimberly, and David Swatzell. Though they are new, their involvement in the music community starts over a decade ago with such bands as Last Flight In, Comrade, Nightmare Waterfall, and a handful of other projects you might not have had the chance to see if “punk rock” just isn’t your scene. But this project is something you don’t want to miss.

This summer and fall, Wray will be touring the United States with surf rock legends Man or Astro-Man?
