Offers Summer Workshops for Women Navigating Life Transitions

A diverse selection of programs offers women opportunities to discover new skill sets, learn the fundamentals of finances and family law,

meet new people and make meaningful changes in their lives.

 

(Sarasota-Manatee, FL) The Women’s Resource Center’s Venice facility is offering several programs this summer for women navigating life transitions. Programs include classes and workshops on smart divorce, family law, and financial management. Group and one-on-one career coaching and counseling are also available. “These workshops and classes offer a road map for women who are actively looking to make meaningful changes in their lives,” says Linda Mickelberg, site manager for the Venice facility. “It’s a wonderful way for women to become better equipped to embrace and celebrate their life—whether they are adjusting to a career change, concerned about financial security, coping with difficult family relationships or seeking opportunities for personal growth and self-sufficiency.”

The courses and workshops include:

The Great Divide: A Finance and Divorce Workshop (Wednesday, June 28, noon-1:30 p.m.; $10): Workshop participants become informed about the financial facts of separation and/or divorce before making major decisions. Facilitated by Florida Supreme Court certified mediator, Freya Robbin, “The Great Divide” will help couples unwind the complexities of their situation and find workable solutions.

The Smart Spilt (Thursday, June 29, 3-5 p.m.; $10): This workshop focuses on the Florida legal process for obtaining a divorce and other family law-related matters. The session is facilitated by Attorney Rebecca Rider, who specializes in family and divorce law with more than 20 years’ experience helping clients in Florida.

Employability: (Every Tuesday, 11 a.m.-2 p.m.) Need a new job or looking for a career boost? Join one of our employment classes:

    • Career Coaching: Individual assistance in preparing for a successful job search. Includes resume preparation, interviewing skills and networking techniques.
    • Mentoring: This program is offered to established clients who would benefit from additional support and experience from a qualified mentor.
    • One-on-One Computer Tutoring: Learn your way around an Excel spreadsheet, how to create a new Word document, and how to upload attachments.

Counseling (Every Thursday, 10 a.m.-4 p.m.)  with Dr. Jerry Fennel, psychologist. All counseling sessions are $40 individual, $50 couples. Sliding fee scale available ($5-$40).

Financial Fundamentals (Wednesdays, July 26, August 23, September 20, 11 a.m.-noon; $2): Financial seminars on assorted topics, which are easy to understand and help women find the road to financial success. This program is for individuals looking to have a better understanding of their finances.
