With total Halloween spending expected to reach $7.4 billion this year and more than two-thirds of celebrants buying costumes for the holiday, the leading personal finance social network WalletHub conducted an in-depth analysis of 2014’s Best and Worst Cities for Halloween.
In the spirit of the spookiest time of the year, WalletHub crunched the numbers to find the best and worst cities to celebrate Halloween. We did so by analyzing 15 key metrics, ranging from crime rates to the number of candy stores per capita.

- The percentage of the population aged 14 or younger is three times higher in Laredo, Texas, than in San Francisco.
- The walk score is four times higher in New York than in Chesapeake, Va.
- The average price of a Halloween party ticket is 11 times higher in Las Vegas than in Fort Worth, Texas.
- The number of bars per capita is 32 times higher in Orlando, Fla., than in Hialeah, Fla.
- The violent crime rate is 47 times higher in Detroit than in Irvine, Calif.
- The population density is 158 times higher in New York than in Anchorage, Alaska.
- The best temperature (77 degrees F) in the evening for trick-or-treating will be in Miami, Fla., whereas the worst (31 degrees F) will be in Anchorage, Alaska.
