John Burr Voice Dynamics Presents a

“VOICEOVER BASICS WORKSHOP”

Saturday, July 26, 9 a.m.-3 p.m.

(Sarasota, FL) New technology and media platforms continue to redefine the entertainment industry. One overlooked dimension? Audio. “It’s a little known fact, but the demand for vocal talent is expanding,” says John Burr, the founder of John Burr Voice Dynamics. “From the iPad to the Kindle to an amazing range of podcasts, the need is increasing for voiceover talent.”

And he should know. Burr has more than 30 years experience as a professional voice coach, recording engineer and audio/video producer. His decades in the industry provide him an in-depth understanding of every stage of the production process. His recording studio in Sarasota offers state-of-the-art post-production equipment and over 100,000 music and sound effects cuts for producing professional-quality voiceover demos.

“These demos have one purpose and one purpose only,” says Burr. “To meet the unending need for well-trained and professional vocal talent.”

According to Burr, this demand ranges from the traditionally smooth announcer’s voice, to the rough and gravelly, to the sensual. “Millions of people have some kind of natural speaking talent,” he says. “But it’s a big leap from that to the professional level. That’s where I come in.”

The transformation starts with Burr’s upcoming one-day Voiceover Basics Workshop, Saturday, July 26, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., in Sarasota. He notes that demand for these workshops is always high. The fee is $100 and space is limited to 10 students. Those interested in the workshop can register online by visiting www.johnburrvoice.com/signup. “Becoming a top-level voiceover talent is far from easy,” says Burr. “It demands training with a seasoned professional and a commitment to the learning process.” According to Burr, following through on that training is well worth it. He explains that voiceovers are used in new media formats, radio and TV commercials, movies, documentaries, political campaigns, animations and cartoons, and for corporate projects. “There is a host of viable opportunities for voiceover actors,” says Burr. “This can be an extremely lucrative career.”

The workshop will feature an overview of the 21st-century voiceover industry, the basics of vocal technique, and critique sessions in commercial and narration techniques. “By the end of the session, you’ll know if this is a field you want to pursue,” he says.

Students who study with Burr appreciate his insight and honest assessment of their potential as well as his connections within the voice talent industry.

“I am so thrilled that I went to John Burr for my voiceover training,” says Jules Price of Sarasota. “He is incredibly knowledgeable about the industry, extremely detail-oriented, and has an unusual and admirable mastery of the English language. He gives you not only the tools but also the confidence to approach this somewhat daunting career with gusto. I really loved the demo CD we created together. The ongoing support he offers former students will prove to be a huge asset and resource in the future.”

Lorraine Ziff, a student from Longboat Key, says that her work with Burr has lead to lucrative jobs, including being chosen as the voice of the International Television and Video Association awards in Los Angeles. “John is a fantastic teacher who is patient, funny, professional and results-oriented,” says Ziff. “The demo disc we created has gotten me compliments and, more importantly, work. I highly recommend him to anyone who wants to get involved in a voiceover career.”

Along with the workshop, Burr also provides one-on-one coaching for people ready to start or continue a career in the expanding voiceover industry. “We study the art of script interpretation, develop an understanding of language dynamics, learn how to control the parameters of on-mike technique, and build confidence in your ability to handle audition and project scenarios,” says Burr.
