VENUES ANNOUNCED FOR FREE DSO COMMUNITY CONCERTS PRESENTED BY DTE ENERGY FOUNDATION

Tickets available now for performances in Brighton, Detroit, Garden City and

Lake Orion in October

Detroit, (July 8, 2014) – Following a review of 15 compelling finalists, four venues have been selected for free Detroit Symphony Orchestra (DSO) concerts in October. The 5-person panel considered dozens of letters of support from community members, hundreds of online comments and some 14,000 votes from the pool of nominees. Brighton Center for the Performing Arts in Livingston County, Garden City High School in Wayne County, Greater Grace Temple in Wayne County and Lake Orion High School in Oakland County will host DTE Energy Foundation Presents the DSO in Your Community concerts.

“The nomination process is really a fun and creative way to engage our communities while exposing thousands of individuals to the DSO experience,” said Faye Nelson, vice president of Public Affairs for DTE Energy and president of the DTE Energy Foundation. “The Foundation’s long-time partnership with the DSO is part of a broader commitment to support the cultural institutions that entertain and inspire the customers we serve.”

While the concerts are free admission, a ticket is required for entry. Tickets are available now at dso.org, via the DSO to Go mobile app, by phone at 313.576.5111 or in person at the Max M. Fisher Music Center Box Office (3711 Woodward Ave., Detroit.)

Dso.org/dtepowersdso, which profiled each eligible venue, received nearly 14,000 votes from community members in support of their favorite venue. This incredible feedback was taken into account by the selection committee as they chose the four final venues. More than 60 notes of support were also received in support of the nominated venues.

A schedule of the DTE Energy Foundation Presents DSO in your Community concerts is as follows:

Garden City High School – Wednesday, October 1 at 7:30 p.m.

Lake Orion High School – Thursday, October 2 at 7:30 p.m.

Greater Grace Temple – Friday, October 3 at 10:45 a.m.

Brighton Center for the Performing Arts – Sunday, October 5 at 3 p.m.

Autumn, a 10-year-old resident of Garden City, wrote the following in support of her town receiving a concert: “I think the DSO coming and doing a free concert would be a very nice thing and bring us closer not only as a community but as a family, because that is what we are in Garden City.”

This is the fourth consecutive year that DTE Energy Foundation has generously sponsored free DSO community concerts. Eligibility for selection was based on a group of logistical criteria along with strong evidence of community support.

The DSO continues to serve its immediate community through collaborations with local schools, a partnership with Detroit Medical Center Children’s Hospital of Michigan providing music therapy to patients, the Detroit Rush program (which provides a $20 ticket to any classical or jazz concert at Orchestra Hall for Detroit residents), among many other events around Detroit.
