Venice Theatre seeks volunteer performers for kitschy musical comedy

Sept. 21 & 22, 2014: Auditions for The Great American Trailer Park Christmas Musical

(Venice, FL) Director Kelly Wynn Woodland and Music Director Peter Madpak are seeking performers to audition for Venice Theatre’s next cabaret production, The Great American Trailer Park Christmas Musical. Four women and two men are needed for this holiday sequel to the wildly popular Great American Trailer Park Musical. Auditions take place Sunday and Monday, Sept. 21 and Sept. 22 at 7:30 p.m. Actors will be seen on a first come, first served basis. Performances of The Great American Trailer Park Christmas Musical will be in the Pinkerton Theatre Tuesdays through Sundays Dec. 5 through 21, 2014.

Auditioners are asked to prepare a song (contemporary musical theatre or country rock style is suggested) and provide sheet music for the accompanist. The theatre requests that actors do not audition using CD, MP3 or other recorded media. Auditioners will also be asked to read from the script (e-mail [email protected] for perusal copies) and should dress comfortably in case they are asked to stay for the dance portion of the audition. More information about the audition process is available at www.venicestage.com or by calling the theatre’s administrative offices at 941-484-4033.

Auditions and all performances will be held at Venice Theatre located at 140 W. Tampa Avenue on the island in Venice.

The following roles are available

  • Darlene late 20s to late 30s. A year-round “Scrooge” who hates everybody and everything. But underneath her hard exterior is a wounded girl who once believed in true love and Christmas magic.
  • Rufus – late 20s to late 30s. Darlene’s neighbor. Best described as a redneck with a heart of gold. Spends most of his downtime fashioning “art” out of found objects like empty beer cans.
  • Jackson “Jackie” Boudreaux40-50 something. A self-made man and an all-American success story. Owner of the thriving local “breastaurant” chain. Unapologetically capitalistic.
  • Betty – 38-50 something. Armadillo Acres leasing manager. Part hard-ass, part mother hen. Grounded, earthy and dry-witted.
  • Linoleum 30s to early 40s. A death row widow having trouble moving on. Spent some time in the ’80s on tour with famed and not-so-famed rockers. The fieriest of all the “girls.”
  • Pickles – late teens to early 20s. Single mom. New to motherhood. Often tired but still embraces the joy of the holiday season. Airy, wide-eyed and a devout believer in Santa Claus.
