Venice Theatre announces Education Open House and 2016 class schedule for children, teens and adults

For students of all ages looking for a life-changing experience or just a fun activity, Venice Theatre will hold an Education Open House on Saturday, Jan. 9, 2016 from 10:30 a.m. to noon at the theatre located at 140 W. Tampa Ave. in Venice. The Education and Outreach Department and teaching team will be on hand to explain the different class offerings, share information about scholarships and assist families with registration.

For those who want to register early, registration is already open for Venice Theatre’s 2016 theatre classes. The spring semester begins the week of Jan. 11, 2016 and includes classes for children, teens and adults. Classes run six to 11 weeks and will be taught by instructors Brad Wages, VT’s staff lead teacher, Cara Herman, VT’s Assistant Director of Education and Outreach, Becky Holahan, Gary Seddon, Preston Boyd, Michael Perez, Gladys Varga, Amy Blake, Peter Ivanov, Ashley Strand, Parker Lawhorne and Gabriela Gorka. Venice Theatre offers beginning, intermediate, advanced and specialty classes for students from kindergarten through adult.  New students are welcomed! For the youngest students, there are two creative play classes: “Theatre Magic” for grades K-1 and “Act It Out” for grade 2. Both classes are fun-filled adventures into the world of theatre that build the students’ self-confidence and social skills.

For students in grades three through 12, Venice Theatre offers a wide variety of classes that will perform on the MainStage on March 12, 2016. Class offerings include foundational classes like “Musical Motion” and the popular Act 1, 2 and 3 classes, as well as many specialty classes that range from makeup and stand-up comedy to scene painting and “Shakespeare out of the Box!”.

Also back by popular demand is the “Between the Scenes Series” offering for experienced students in seventh through 12th grade: “All the World’s a Stage!.” This class is by audition only on Jan. 5, 2016 at 5 p.m.

For adult students, the theatre is offering some exciting new classes for both the actor and non-actor taught by professionals in their fields. For the actor, offerings include “Stand up for Laughs!” (yes, a stand-up comedy class), “Serious Scene Study”, “5,6,7,8…Don’t Let Dance Intimidate” and “16 Bars to Success.”  For the non-actor, offerings include instruction in scenic painting and stage makeup. Another popular offering for adults is “Creative Dramatics for Adults with Developmental Challenges” which builds confidence and life skills using theatre exercises and acting study.

Venice Theatre also offers private lessons for students who are interested in individual one-on-one instruction. Private lessons are customized for individuals who want to advance their acting and/or musical theatre skills.

In addition to seasonal classes, Venice Theatre offers customized programs for Girl Scout and Boy Scout badges as well as a unique Technical Theatre Apprenticeship Program (TTAP). TTAP is a career-track technical training program for students 16 years and older and is accredited by the Florida Department of Education. It is the ideal program for students who are interested in a career in technical theatre.

Venice Theatre is located at 140 W. Tampa Avenue on the island in Venice. The Box Office is open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday and 10 a.m. through 1 p.m. on Saturday.
