Theatre Fairfield Opens Performance Season with Espionage Drama
Pack of Lies

FAIRFIELD, CT (October 13, 2016) — Theatre Fairfield, the resident production company at Fairfield University, opens its 2016-17 season with Hugh Whitemore’s award-winning 1983 drama Pack of Lies.

Performances will take place at the Wien Experimental Theatre at Fairfield University’s Regina A. Quick Center for the Arts October 26-29, at 8 p.m., with 2 p.m. matinees on Saturday, Oct. 29 and Sunday, Oct. 30. Tickets are $15 general admission, $6 for seniors and University staff, and $5 for students. Tickets can be purchased in person at the Quick Center Box Office, by phone at 1-877-ARTS-396, or online at www.quickcenter.com.

Based on a true story, Pack of Lies centers on Barbara and Bob Jackson and their daughter, Julie, who in 1960, learn that their best friends and next-door neighbors, Helen and Peter Kroger, are spying for the Soviet Union. After officers from MI5 — the British Intelligence service — are stationed in their house to monitor the couple across the street, the Jackson family is torn between duty to their country and loyalty to their friends. A dramatic take on a real-life espionage case in London, this remarkably contemporary drama speaks to the issue of present-day national security and government surveillance. Theatre Fairfield chose to present Pack of Lies prior to the U.S. presidential election to engage the community in dialogue with the critical issues raised in the play.

Pack of Lies features a talented group of theatre professionals new to Theatre Fairfield including Mark Torres, director; Haley Lieberman, costume designer; and Scott Andrew Cally, lighting designer, who are joining resident scenic designer Lynne Porter. The cast features Liam Cahill ’18 from Floral Park, NY; Christine Colosacco ’18 from Bronxville, NY; Martha Hegley ’20 from Trumbull, CT; Shannon Kelley ’19 from Bayonne, NJ; Sean Larson ’18 from Fairfield, CT; Brendan McNamara ’17 from Warwick, RI; Erin Miller ’18 from Woodbury, CT; and Mackenna Wysocki ’18 from Somers, CT.  The production is stage managed by Michelle Rakowsky ’17 from New Fairfield, CT, and Fallon Sullivan ’20 from Chatham, NJ.

Theatre Fairfield produces three or more productions every year and serves as a platform for community engagement as well as a positive and professional learning environment.
