The Sarasota Orchestra Wind Quintet
on Sunday, March 15 at 4:00 pm.

The renowned woodwind quintet will bring us the brilliant sounds of flute, oboe, clarinet, French horn and bassoon. With the vast repertoire available to the woodwind quintet, the ensemble presents programs that feature masterworks of the literature as well as new and varied repertoire. Their engaging personalities always assure the listener of an entertaining and enlightening experience. Founded in 1984, the Sarasota Wind Quintet is the resident woodwind quintet of the Sarasota Orchestra. The Quintet presents its own concert series in Holley Hall at the Beatrice Friedman Symphony Center in Sarasota and performs frequently throughout Manatee, Sarasota and Charlotte counties.
Meet the ensemble members:
Betsy Hudson Traba, principal flute since 1993 • Betsy’s hometown is Mentor, Ohio and she began playing the flute at the age of 10 and has made her living as an Orchestral Flutist for over 20 years. She is a “swim team mom” and one of her children is a champion swimmer!
Adam DeSorgo, principal oboe since 2003 • Adam hails from Lakewood, Ohio and has played rehearsal piano for the Berg Violin Concerto with MTT and Gil Shaham. He has a fondness for old BMWs, most things Magyar and making reeds. His left eye is two colors.
Bharat Chandra, principal clarinet SINCE 2001 • Bharat is the son of the late poet, G. S. Sharat Chandra, a two time Pulitzer Prize nominee from India who witnessed him being presented the Gunther Schuller Medal from the New England Conservatory. He is a big fan of the Dallas Cowboys.
Fernando Traba, principal bassoon since 1992 • Fernando began playing at age 11 and is the only bassoonist from Mexico who has played principal bassoon for a living in 4 different countries (USA, Spain, Portugal and Mexico). He loves silly jokes and would like to see Classical Music brought back from its endangered status.
Joshua Horne, acting co-principal horn since 2014 • Born and raised in San Antonio, Texas, Joshua received his undergraduate degree at the University of Texas and his master’s at Rice University. He has performed with professional orchestras such as the San Antonio Symphony, Houston Symphony, and Charlotte Symphony.
The concert will be held in the Roser Community Church Sanctuary. A Freewill Offering will be taken. Roser Church is located near the Anna Maria City Pier at 512 Pine Avenue. Come early, bring the family and enjoy the day on beautiful Anna Maria Island.
